i think it really depends on what you use your phone for - i'm currently using a samsung droid charge which has a beautiful super amoled screen, which is awesome with google maps & navigation. i wish it had all the apps and games that iOS does, and also wish it has the iPhone's battery life, but it's not what i primarily use the phone for.

I'd get an Android, but whatever.

If you want speed, Verizon seems like the network to beat right now.

My brother reports insane network speeds with Verizon in SE Portland. 20mbit sustained, with off-peak bursts or better, faster than his cable. He entertains his child by streaming 720p video from home server to phone.

My wife and I each need a smartphone, which is another good reason to go with an iPhone. They're $200 a pop with Verizon, as opposed to $300 a pop for a Galaxy or SII.

you'll be paying a minimum of $720 just for the data plan over the course of two years (per phone). so the extra $100 doesn't mean a lot in the big scheme of things.

The iphone is a great phone.

I bought a galaxy s for "free" and loved it. Did everything I wanted and more. I had bad luc though and hit a known issue with the phones turning themselves off when they were in sleep mode. So my buddy gifted my an ipphone 3gs.

it does everything I want and more. Between the two I'd say I liked the android more, but I like the UI and I also messed aroudn with it a lot more when it was new, so I was probably using it "more."

At the end of the day though both are great phones, and Seething is right that a hundred bucks up front is just a small part of the total price you pay for a smartphone.
