First Smartphone: Garth, should I buy an iPhone 4S or wait for the iPhone 5?

I'm about to get my first Smartphone ever, and everyone at Large Portland Shoe Company uses Apple products, so that's what I'm going with too. The problem is that I don't want to buy an iPhone 4S at the end of January just to have the iPhone 5 come out some time in March with the iPad 3. But if the 5 isn't going to come out until next December, then I'll just go with the 4S.
Any advice on what to do?

given apple's consistently underwhelming upgrades from version to version, you're probably fine with the 4s. the only thing likely to come with a 5 is LTE. if that's a dealbreaker for you, then wait.

5 will have a bigger screen. The 4S screen is pathetic compared to what is out there now.

Should prolly wait until they release some Steve Jobs commemorative limited edition gadget later in the year.
They may wait another year to do this but I doubt it.

the smartphone market has caught up to the iphone
i personally probably wont own another one. like all of apples products, if you really want to tweak and customize, you are better off with something else

IPhone is mid-cycle, not likely updated any time soon. There are better screens out there but generally come with less battery life. If you want one I'd go ahead and get it, you can still usually sell them for a good price if you want to upgrade whenever 5 comes out.

SAMSUNG GALAXY SII YOU FOOL!
cheaper, larger screen then the iphone5 will ever have... It also has gorilla glass and a dual core processor.
The software for the phone was not written by retarded thumbless chimps but by actual smart people who wants you to personalize and like your phone..
I'd buy two galaxy sII before I'd buy one more Iphone and I have two Iphones..

Lower resolution though but I still wouldn't ever trade it for an Apple phone.

galaxy nexus has almost the same resolution as the 4s plus a huge screen and an OS not designed for special ed kids.
