How is paying your bills a bigger issue than controlling your spending? Particularly when that spending control included an extremely controversial rider that gives the president even more authority to detain civilians?

Because if you cut the funding to all those NDAA programs or you force Congress to adhere to a limit then maybe we don't go straight into insolvency.
You know as well as I do that nobody was going to vote against the NDAA, they never do. It could have said that Obama was now Master of the Universe and nobody would have down voted it.

Now you're arguing that it's okay that Ron Paul didn't vote against the NDAA because everybody else wasn't going to, either. Not only is that incorrect (apparently a couple of Oregon's representatives have bigger balls than Paul), but it's ridiculous. You can't pick and choose when it's okay for Paul to act like a normal politician and when he should be the Freedom Superhero that some people seem to think he is.
By the way, there is no quicker path to insolvency than telling the creditors of the US that we don't really want to pay our debts any more.

Here he explains his opposition to NDAA.

It was a very critical time so he had to campaign. He is trying to get the presidency against all the power brokers in the US in case you haven't heard.

The best campaign would be doing his job.

As far as I know he's still trying to get there, yet he's suspending his campaign to vote against the debt ceiling hike. Obviously voting against paying our bills is more important than fighting those power brokers.

There wasn't a doubt it would be voted for by the majority. He had to get caucus votes. He voted against the patriot act. He has a 30 year voting record of voting against anything like NDAA so cut him some slack.

That was pretty much my position when it happened. Then he decided to fly back to vote against increasing the debt ceiling. Now I realize that I was cutting him slack that he didn't deserve.
It's alright, I don't expect that this post is going to un-convert the choir or anything, I was just posting an article I happened to see on Drudge as a follow up to another thread on the topic that you probably missed a couple of weeks ago.

Another stupid and disingenuous thread. The NDAA was a landslide in votes, and BTW the NDAA has been enacted for the last 49 years.
If you genuinely hate this version of the NDAA, lets see you take it to the people who authored it (Carl Levin -D Michigan) and those that signed off on it. Hating a guy whose record is consistent over decades for yet another bill way beyond his control is the height of pure partisan bullsnot.

Well the msm was going to put out articles on him flying 1st class on his flights. He would have had to use his congressional budget to pay for his flight back to DC. None of the articles mentioned that he is the only congressman that returns a portion of his congressional budget to the treasury each year. He is being attacked by the highest level from all sides.
Here is a floor speech by him before the vote.
