I always thought that it was a Mossad trick! How easy it made it for them to watch millions.

But seriously this company was a very dirty little outfit. I'll explain what they did. In the original versions of the program it was a pretty slick interface (at the time) for setting up internet friendships but what this outfit did forever stuck in my memory. You could naturally make your own settings private but after the program reached about quarter million users, this company made it so that your friends contact list was exposed to them (the company).

So the trick was that you used the service and a friend entered all of your contact data (phone, address, email, etc), that contact data was exposed to the company for their purposes.

This was all long before Facebook, so way back then I made up my mind I would never again go anywhere near any of these programs and I don't even bother giving my email to most people because I know that most people are too ignorant to BBC their mail when they start up their stupid chain email fetishes.

There is not much that I hate more than being marketed to or having my personal info sold like I have no say in the matter or that it is not a valuable commodity to me. All of these companies suck donkey balls and many of them over the years lied many times about their privacy policies.

LinkedIn does this - even if you set yourself up as private and keep your connections private - if a member pays extra for the upgraded service then they will have access to any data you put up on there and your connections.

My question is.. who cares?

What could they possibly do with useless information like that? you know the same info you can find in a phone book, or that you give out to the government you hate so much every time you file your taxes.

I have never been harassed by anyone or any company because I signed on any social networking sites.

Take the tinfoil hate off, no one is out to get you

i get calls to my cell phone and emails all the time via people that find my info on linkedin.

I have no desire to use facebook though because I hate the internet and dont want to tether myself to it even more.

I don't use linkedin, and by what you say it seems linkedin is far worse than facebook is.

I could go as far as saying no one I know has ever been contacted because of information they put on facebook ( unless they wanted to be contacted and gave their info to someone )

I thought we were talking about facebook. I know for a fact you cannot edit, add, or delete information on anyones account other than your own. Even relationship updates must be cleared through you. If you only want to put your most basic information, you can. And theres nothing stopping you from putting up false information if you want to go full illmyrin.

Exactly, there's a lot of tin foil thinking in this thread.

What danger is LinkedIn? You put in your current place of employment and job title, name, email address, education history and done. I log into it a few times a year to accept requests from people I know and that's about it.

I never said it was dangerous - I just said linkedin shares your info - including the stuff you mark as private in response to someone who said that facebook does it. I'm sure they all do it, if you mark it as private it doesn't mean that the information is not passed around.

Not everyone is an idiot that doesn't care about or who fails to understand how modern methods are used to cross correlate and compile information. If your data is valueless to you, that is your business. Your lack of attention to detail and stupid responses like "who cares" demonstrates your general ineptitude. If you want to live that way fine, it isn't fine for others who understand and resent their personal information being collected surreptitiously and sold without consent.

I don't have a facebook account.

I see everyone I care about. If I don't see you I don't care about you, and I'll assume you don't care about me.
