As far as I know they don't have to confirm or deny any scientific theories.

Rationalize much?

Ron Paul said the same thing - are you going to berate yourself now?

Why would I berate myself? I am not running for president. I didn't say I don't believe in evolution. Yup I am sure you now you are rationalizing.

I tell ya Tych,

I hear statements like this from Dr. Paul and it does make me squeemish because it's not my view on things.

But I believe two things.

1. There's absolutely no way I would be doing my job as an informed citizen and not have dissenting opinions from any candidates statements on a wide range of topics especially religion.

2. His political beliefs and his platform I think are still more viable than any other candidate to date. And honestly given the cliff that this nation is teetering on I could give a damn if he sacrificed a chicken before he went to bed every night so he could peer at the bones...

Ron Paul is a nut job. It isn't that he doesn't have some decent positions but that his way of thinking is on the same level as a religious extremist. There is really no room for reason within his thought process.

Exactly. I was giving him(Reese) an out. You don't have to agree with everything your candidate or party says or even make excuses for it, but he wanted to keep rationalizing it. The conversation with him was over then hence my chief comment.

I agree 100% with you though Loon.

With this interpretation of Genesis 1: 1-2, one cannot tell from the Bible how old the earth is. This is not a problem, as the Bible is no science book, but a book of faith.

Seems more reasonable than 6000 years.

From Genesis 1: 1-2, sure, it doesn't say how long the Earth sat around before God started the rest of creation. But at that point, all that exists in Earth with nothing alive on it and empty space with no sun, moon, stars, etc. So you can quibble about how long that is, but regardless once you get to Genesis 1: 3-5, when God adds light and day/night, you are at a point where it is 6000 years until present day.

So even if your interpretation lets the universe exist for 13 billion years, you have 12.999994 billion years of nothing but one solitary planet existing in the entire universe, then 1 week of everything else being created, then 6000 years until present day. Still way off reality.

Well i think it said he created the heavens and the earth right? So i would assume the heavens would include other planets and stars But then again this whole discussion is making me see stars!

When you say 'why should a president be deciding scientific theories?' you are choosing to live in fantasy land and not dealing with reality.

The head of the executive branch has an awful lot of sway in what his agencies do and do not do when it comes to science and technology. If he doesn't believe in something, he doesn't have to fund it as we saw during the Bush years.

The notion that Ron Paul will do away with 200 years of establishment and things will be nirvana just because he is now president is beyond stupid.

R+D will not become the exclusive domain of private business. Both private and public agencies are necessary to keep the country moving in the direction it needs to with regards to science and innovation. If you have a candidate that is openly hostile to science and\or public funding of such that becomes president, you run a serious risk of falling even farther behind our competitors on the international stage.

embarrassing. the guy is a doctor ffs. but he's also 150 years old and probably got his medical degree before Darwin so it's not a huge shock that his views are totally counter to mainstream medical practitioners.

I'm glad Ron Paul is so old. This way he has no chance of becoming this countries Hitler if thing get bad enough. The thing is when things get REALLY bad radicals like Ron Paul get elected and then people and freedom dies

How old is Ron Paul?

He may have some insight that we do not.

Maybe he was there.

I kinda like that guy. Something about him makes you smile when you watch him debate.

Even when you say to yourself wtf? He said what? You are still smiling and sort of nodding.

This is probably his last run. Four years from now I don't think people will be willing to take the bet on him living through his term.

Ron Paul is 77.

If elected, he would be 8 years older then the oldest president ever elected. Reagan was 69 when he was elected.
