Does he also believe the world is six thousand years old just like Sarah Palin?

Ron Paul posted:

"Well, first i thought it was a very inappropriate question, you know, for the presidency to be decided on a scientific matter," he said. "I think it's a theory...the theory of evolution and I don't accept it as a theory. But I think the creator that i know, you know created us, every one of us and created the universe and the precise time and manner and all. I just don't think we're at the point where anybody has absolute proof on either side."

I don't see why both sides can't accept each other.

I mean.. I believe that life on this planet evolved from simple things. However, what kicked off the universe? Sure there is the big bang theory, but how did that happen? Believing that some magic thing happened and that this supernova of epic proportions caused a spiral of events to form an unknown number of galaxies.. How did this matter just exist to create the big bang? We just don't know enough as a species to really conclude anything either way honestly.

That's all well and fine to want to discuss the beginnings of the universe, but we have adequate proof for evolution. Ron Paul doesn't understand what a scientific theory is, and isn't.

No offense, but your post is a good example of why it's so difficult to bridge the gap.

Evolution is a fact - it can be tested and proven. We know that evolution happens in nature.

That human beings evolved from another species is a theory that continues to move towards fact - every year that passes we uncover more evidence that fills the gap in our evolutionary timeline.

These two things are completely separate from the start of existence as we know it.

Given the audience (Texas), I think he gave a very good political answer. Don't alienate potential voters on an issue that no one can ultimately know - the event of creation.

As an actual doctor I do not believe he dismisses evolution as a whole, he appeared to be speaking more in terms of evolution in the context of creation, and that - no one knows for certain.

So he doesn't believe that and only told them what they wanted to hear?

I think you are trying to rationalize his answer because it doesn't jive with what you hold true.

Any numbers out there that show how many christians actually believe the earth is only 6k years old? I have a hard time believing anyone could truely believe that number. Christianity might have started around 6k years ago but from what I have read most biblical scholars know the earth is much older. Personally i dont know anyone who thinks the world is only 6k years old.
