I asked Mastboro once and he ignored the question. I am just chalking it up to not seeing the question, but he did say he believes the literal translation of the bible.

Given the audience (Texas), I think he gave a very good political answer. Don't alienate potential voters on an issue that no one can ultimately know - the event of creation.

So he doesn't believe that and only told them what they wanted to hear?

Put his answer and wording into context.

He didn't say anything incorrect, and worded his response in a non-antagonizing way.

No one knows what created the universe - why would you alienate voters by claiming otherwise? Especially in American and doubly especially in Texas?

Ron Paul is running for the Office of the President not some Chair at a University...

As I said I think you are trying to rationalize his answer to make you less squeamish, but whatever. Perhaps I am wrong, but I don't see it.

It's a mainstay of Evangelical Christianity in the United States.

It's also a belief in some Jewish and Islamic circles.

It's definitely not as widely held belief as say, Jesus being the son of god, but it's also not as fringe as believing that lizard people run the world.

Pretty good writeup on where it comes from btw.

Any numbers out there that show how many christians actually believe the earth is only 6k years old? I have a hard time believing anyone could truely believe that number. Christianity might have started around 6k years ago but from what I have read most biblical scholars know the earth is much older. Personally i dont know anyone who thinks the world is only 6k years old.

Wiki is down today because our politicans are ass holes.

Christianity isn't 6k years old. Abrahamic religions are not 6k years old. This planet is not 6k years old. Yes, there are Young Earth Creationists, many more than most people realize - they are however mostly evangelicals.

No idea. I don't know the bible hat well. I was born catholic, but I don't hold religion close to me. I am saying that I think if you believe in the literal translation then you are probably more open to believe the other craziness that the earth is 6k yrs old.
