As far as the op goes:

I am having a hard time believing that so many of you are so easily manipulated.

The Alaska Pipeline required 6 years of preconstruction efforts and almost 2,000 pieces of government licenses\approvals. That was one state. This is a much larger effort.

The 60 day time table was designed to fail. Congress wanted Obama to reject this. They knew what they were asking was impossible. It's why they asked.

But hey, blame the Muslim Satan if it makes you feel better.

Stopping the pipeline doesnt really do much environmentally since US consumers just switch to oil from across some ocean. There is no real environmental victory here unless you close your eyes and pretend the products coming out of gulf coast refineries appeared out of thin air by magic.

Shipping oil across the ocean doesn't possibly ruin drinking water supplies. The issue is the current proposed route runs over some key aquifers.

Pipelines are significantly less likely to leak/spill than other transportation methods. But you hit on my point I think....its an environmental victory only if you ignore the oil that will leak into the oceans and bays with the increased ocean shipping. Thats not really a step forward, you are just tricking yourself.

This was a win-win for everyone politically.

The GOP gets to bluster and scream. Obama gets to appease the non-thinking environmentalists. It wont actually make a difference to anyone voting next fall.

The pipeline company will resubmit their request with the already announced slightly altered route through Nebraska and it will be approved next year.

Its silly that it has to go through this process.
