Presidents are there to do a job. Not beckon people they want to meet and expect them to come running like good dogs.

I clicked this thread thinking it would be some numbnut making an OBAMAAAAA statement. I'm impressed and respect his decision.

I can respect his decision not to go.

The releasing of the statement I question for his teams' sake. It could also start a bit of a crap storm. Any of his teammates who feel differently may be prompted to release their own political statement.

Generally speaking, it's also not very smart considering where he plays.

But it's his right to do so as an American.

I agree with you almost to the letter Tali, but while the notion of releasing a statement may have been questionable judgement, refusing to go meet the President and NOT stating his reasons would have been automatically labeled racist by some. At least he clarified his reasons.
