Classic "Look! Over there!" thread. Romney pays a smaller % of his taxes than cops, nurses, teachers, small business owners,, not to mention that most of his income isn't subject to payroll taxes, and the right tries to shift the subject to charity.

Yes, it is nice he gives so much to charity. But, what does that have to do with the fact that he pays very low taxes compared to most wage earners?

Wow you are an idiot. You know he's paying capital gains, not regular income right? That means he already paid the top rate on the money, and this is reinvested. The lengths libs will go to...

Liberals hate facts like this. Instead of saying liberals should give more they attack those who give for making them look bad.

Stupid, ignorant or evil
The result is always evil but the intent is not always evil. Not that it makes much difference in the long run.

Also: the mormons have no paid ministry so there goes the "it's all going to the mega church's coffee machine"...and yep, no coffee for mormons either.

In other news:

The Bidens gave an average of $369 to charity a year for the decade before he moved to the Naval Observatory - about 0.3 percent of their income. Back in 1997, then veep Al Gore and his then wife Tipper gave $353.

And how much of his taxes did he wiggle out of 'legally'?

The 1.2 million is for 4 years. So they were really making 250k/year.

Comparing the % given to charity by a couple earning 250k/year and 20 million a year is pretty stupid.

Doesn't surprise me SRC was the one to do it.

P.S. They were also taxed at a much higher rate. If they had been taxed at the same % Romney was they could have given the same % to charity as he did and still had the same take-home income.

Your math is fuzzy.

1.2 million over 4 years is 300k. You effectively reduced his income over 4 years by 200k. (That is a lot of money in the real world.)

Obama's charitable contributions over 4 years, which I noticed we did not do the math on, comes out to 2693/year.

No matter the argument, I think it is safe to say that earning 300k and giving that little is not charitable.

Romney made 21.7 million.

Gave ~1.5 million to charities outside of his church.

Gave another ~1.5 million to his church.
