The tea party is a grass roots organization. not a national party with a unified platform. Ironically tea party supporters were using this exact same defense to explain inconsistencies and distance "mainstream tea partiers" from fringe tea partiers. it must be awesome to get to redefine yourself to the situation every single time.
Actually what would be awesome would be if they didn't have to. There are plenty of racist Democrats but the Democratic party doesn't have to defend itself every time someone with a (D) next to their name says something racist.

I don't think this is a racist issue so much as an embarrassment issue. The fact that most racists gravitate toward groups like the tea party isn't a flaw in the thinking of the tea party by itself. Don't get so defensive all the time.
the south is just sad that from before the nation was founded until now they have been on the backward stupid side of most important issues and ultimately lost. I'm sure that is what is driving this more than anything else.

Paul, I think you have made a strategic mistake here. The best way to defend the Tea Party in this instance is clearly the "well these people arn't really Tea Party people because real Tea Party people wouldn't do this" defense. That one has the advantage of being perfectly circular and thus impenetrable.

I'm all for grass roots movements, environmentalism depends on them when governments get stupid. The problem with the tea party is that they pretty much believe any populist jingoism that comes along. This makes them very easily manipulated because they lose sight of the goal. Compare this to environmentalism's Bessed Union and you see what the long-term problem is for the tea party.

Teacher's don't pick the textbooks. Some political apppointee somewhere does, probably after he's been taken to a 3 Michelin star restaurant by the textbook publisher and given an "escort" for the night along with a campaign contribution. |

Well I am not sure where or even how to find out where they come from. I thought the teacher choose their syllabus for the year. I've had some great teachers and believe it or not both of my kids had some of the very same ones which kind of freaked me out a little bit.
Again I have faith in our teachers.
Keep in mind this is MA and most politicians here are liberal democrats.

We'll still have troll rwns claiming that most racists are liberal. Racism has been a bedrock of conservatism historically. If theres anyone who would be resistant to change, new/different culture, or equality on any front, it would be a conservative. Time cures all but slow rwns need extra it seems.
