The traditional console industry is having a hard time embracing the new smartphone game business model as it is severely cutting into their market. Microsoft and Sony are desperate to keep their high $60 price tag on new games and are looking to eradicate the used game market out of pure greed.

Haha I predicted that a while ago. People were like NOWAI!

lol
its their intellectual property.
you shouldnt be allowed to use it without paying for it.
you cant use someone else's copy of windows or mac os. you cant share songs/movies. why should you be able to use someone else's video games?

i had to buy 2 different copies of win7 for both computers in my house.
why would you even be allowed to use a copy of your game on 2 different machines in the same house?

so make up your minds.
you cant support intellectual property rights being used to fleece consumers in one area, but not in another.

soon you will have to put a quarter in a machine just for walking past the tv department at walmart and accidently viewing some of their coprytighted material.

as long as the previous owner is no longer using those examples you CAN use their copy. you can sell your old movies and records and cds.

I only buy games off of Steam anymore and then only when deep discounted. If the industry wants to continue to make buying their products unfeasible, that is fine. I won't buy and I don't steal. I simply become a non participant. There are plenty of distractions in life I can make use of. Stupid computer games is far down the list of things I need to survive.

I cut off Hollywood decades ago in the same manner, they only get a very tiny bit of revenue from me through streaming services and even there I mainly don't watch Hollywood movie products anyway. I watch foreign and independent productions.

The more the establishment tries to serve me crap and abuse fair use, the more I cut them off where it hurts them the most, their precious revenue.

Yes, stealing is bad - however - this isn't stealing, in the legal sense of the word.

The courts have ruled repeatedly now that rental systems, like game rentals, do not violate the copyright of the original copyright owner. Likewise, selling a game to someone else has also been deemed to be perfectly legal, so long as all the material you originally purchases is transferred to the new owner. (Physical discs + documentation)

So, basically, you're an idiot.

As to the topic here - while Microsoft can technically do this I don't see it lasting and I certainly do not see Sony or Nintendo following suit. They want too much to drive a wedge into Microsoft's market share and this is one thing that will really do that for them (Presuming of course this isn't just a trial-balloon and Microsoft actually does this)

That's using a sledgehammer where a scalpel works better.

Developers have been finding ways to discourage buying used copies for years now with content-based restrictions. Like how EA restricts online play by requiring you to link your code to an EA account.

Nickel and diming people is always better than just out and out banning.

Yup. I reject intellectual property. I also think Steam is a good system. Win-win.
