The traditional console industry is having a hard time embracing the new smartphone game business model as it is severely cutting into their market. Microsoft and Sony are desperate to keep their high $60 price tag on new games and are looking to eradicate the used game market out of pure greed.

Greed is what it is too. They want to price fix things like nintendo does with their first party titles. Don't like $60 for a game? too bad it'l be that much for 2-3 years. Micro$oft and sony can't be trusted to have a market with only them controlling the prices. We would never get something like steam for consoles that offers deals. We'd get more mod like psn+ where you have to pay a premium for a few select discounts every now and then.

Honestly if I hadn't gotten the PS3 as a bonus from my old job I wouldn't have bought one, especially not close to release. I never buy brand new titles either, $50-$70 is a ripoff for some of the stuff that comes out. I do buy a few used/on sale games once they hit $20-25 though.
I still do mostly PC gaming and screw arund on my used Dreamcast much more than the "next-gen" consoles.
I'm liking the indie games scene more and more, stuff you can pick up for 30-90 mins then put away. Not like these "serious" "AAA" titles.

and console games on blu ray discs won't be completely download for a long time, I think the mindset has to change for players for it to happen really.
I go buy a console game I want to play right now, I don't want to wait 3 hours for it to download.

I don't have a console these days, but it makes sense to me that until they get rid of cd, dvds, cartridges, etc. and go completely to download, until then any system that attempts to shut down the rental/resale market is screwing themselves unless all consoles do it. I did pretty much exactly what Lyndrek wrote when I did use a console, rent a game for the weekend and if I couldn't beat it I might buy the game. But I could beat almost everything I picked up over the weekend and felt happy I didn't have to spend $50 on a game that I'd never play more than three days.
