USA - 3,794,101 sq mi
How many S. Koreas fit in the US? 98.

If we can hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominos will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

South Korean government spent 70 billion over the past decade improving broadband.
To equal that, the US government (on a per capita basis) would have had to spend more than 400 billion.
You get what you pay for. They got the best broadband infrastructure on the planet. We got a stupid war in Iraq.

We'll never have public broadband of that nature here, telecoms are a mega powerful lobby and want the revenue they can get by driving.

With the costs of Iraq war alone you guys couldve covered your whole country with optic fiber many times over.

You're only thinking in terms of per capita. Once you also figure logistical realities, the figure jumps dramatically. America as noted is a large spread out nation. Rolling out infrastructure here is not that cheap for a variety of reasons. Where nations are more physically condensed and have less physical obstacles, your costs are naturally lowered.

you also have to take into account the inefficiency and overhead of any thing run by government. Also those who still do not have internet despite this infrastructure product will have their wealth stolen to fund other people's connections that they themselves cannot enjoy.

The "we are too big to be good" argument is the most asinine response ever.
Optic fiber is perfectly suited for large distances. It's also relatively cheap, easy to install, and durable.
If a country with 1/3 the per capita GDP and 1/7th the available manpower, that was a brutal hell hole full of uneducated people 50 years ago that was the poorest country in Asia can blanket their country with it, we certainly could do the same.
Instead, we have stupid wars in countries halfway across the world and spend nearly 1 trillion dollars a year on "security".
