My rig draws ~335W during full load measured weath wattmeter in the wall outlet.
(my old company kept one to calculate power draw when projecting&deploying server farms)

Sure go 750W if you're intendin to run SLI/xfire and/or overclock, or just for piece of mind.

(and yes Im on my weekly binge now )

I'll get the 750 then...

what is SLI and xfire?

oh you bastard, I'm off the sauce until the 22th going to my country house in the south, ice fishing if the ice holds and going to bathe in the ice and sauna

If you're gonna spend over 1k to it, do yourself a favor and order from Germany, you'll safe yourself few hundred in total

Cool any recommendations on company/pages to order from?

You don't really need an i7 if you're planning on mostly games. Go with an i5-2500 and it'l do just as well and save you some money. Thats what I did and I'm glad I didn't spend the extra $200 for an i7 that i didn't really need even if it was ooo shiny.

I'm getting the beefy processor so that I won't have to build a new rig or replace it, everything else I can replace myself.. graphics card, RAM, HD'S.. I'll even get the K model so I can overclock.

Running two or more graphics cards in tandem!
SLI = nVidias
X-Fire (crossfire) = ATis

LIke so:

IMO more work and trouble than it's worth cause:

* Bigger power draw and heats up PC more (usually one card is "sandwiched" since they're close together)
* Quirky to get to work with some games (partial or bad support, sometimes due to drivers)
* Doesn't scale as well as you'd expect (usually far from double performance with 2 cards, etc)
* Obv. noisier with two cards and their fans

Oh and you have to make sure you have enough PCI express power cables from the power supply to connect all cards. Expect to need 4 "x6" cables at least if running two medium to high end cards, 2 x8 and 2 x6 if running the biggest ones. (or sometimes you can use converters to get power from regular molex/sata)

I just can't be arsed with this shit, buy 1 decent graphics card for my comp when getting a new PC, then upgrading with a new upper middle end card 2-3 years down the line. Hassle-free.

For games, a 2500k is just as good as a 2700k. I believe the only difference is a very tiny increase in processor speed and cache and the 2700 has hyperthreading, which isn't used in games. The 2500k is trivially easy to overclock. I overclocked mine from 3300 to 4000 just using a utility that came with the motherboard and moving a slider over a bit. Though, for any current game, 3300 is more than sufficient that the cpu won't be a bottleneck.

If you are thinking of having the computer for a while, definitely go 2500k and make sure your motherboard is compatible with the next gen Intel Ivy Bridge processor, which is due out sometime this year. Many manufacturers have a motherboard that will be compatible. A new gen of processors, designed to be compatible with Ivy Bridge, will be coming out around the same time.

Yeah I read up about the MSI board it has the same kind of OC utility installed, only problem then is cooling which I will solve come monday.

Hmm I wonder if my MSI gen 3 motherboard will support the next processors.. either way this rig will keep me happy for a few years
