What has more validity, astrology or religion? |
validity for who?
Hey, if astrology can help you kick your boozing habit, get over destructive thoughts, emotions or habits, or just makes you feel a little better about yourself go for it. Who are you to judge or diminish someone's spirituality?
As to people blowing themselves up, there are a couple thoughts that immediately come to mind.
Anything can be corrupted. I've heard of people in NYC who throw acid on their spouse/lover over a quarrel. Should we demonize Love now because people get it twisted? Meanwhile, we glorify those who sacrifice themselves for the causes we believe in.
The suicide bombers aren't doing this for religious purposes. They're finding solace for their actions in religion. It's really a rage against the machine, American's or Israeli's or their Government drops bombs from a safe location killing their friends/comrades/families and these guys have no equivalent recourse. So they strap themselves up and go tit for tat.

That is fact. Neither me, you nor anyone else on these boards or off them will fit the description of a good person. Being a good person wouldnt mean a thing anyway. But since none are good, it doesn't really matter.

There isn't a who here. It is an absolute. One of these things has more validity than the other in an absolute sense. Granted, both are ridiculous when examined on their own merits, but as least one of them has a physical basis.

Astrology is very easily provably false where tons of people each day don't have their horoscope come true. It also has the issue of being static and the constellations having shifted their appearance times by like a month since astrology was formalized several centuries ago.
Most religions are provably false if you take all of their holy books literally (anything that uses the Old Testament has the issue of Genesis 1 and 2 contradicting each other as a simple example). But they have the cop-out of saying that anything that is wrong isn't supposed to be taken literally.
Religions have more validity as a construct though. The vast majority of them promote a positive message. They also help form social bonds in a community. Astrology is a solo thing and morally neutral.
