What if she was a deaf/mute whose native language would have been Polish?

That would be a white person who doesnt speak spanish....so the vocal minority would be perfectly fine with her.

Arguing that English is the language she'll be working with as a good excuse to exclude her is stupid.

She'll have plenty of time to translate any proposals and review them before she needs to vote, and interpreters aren't that expensive. I'm sure the city already has plenty of Spanish interpreters employed that she could use.

It's a town of 25,000 people literally on the border - as in, the fence goes through the middle of the city.

Who wants to bet that having a mayor who didn't speak spanish would probably be a bigger impediment to doing the job than having one who didn't speak english?

"The racial makeup of the city was 4.02% White, 2.95% Black or African American, 1.46% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, and 2.26% from two or more races. 89.13% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race."
