Was the baby wielded in a threatening manner?

No but I hear it's ears will almost surely recover from the gun going off in it's direction from a few feet away.

The baby could have grabbed the gun and shot the cops. There's no way of telling. Someone should have shot it in the face.

who's dumb enough to go pulling things out of your pocket when being detained by the police?

I wonder if it works both ways.

If I see that cop approaching me at a traffic stop, I will be in fear of my life based on his history of multiple killings and therefore have the right to shoot him first in self defense.

Someone who didn't know he was being detained? Someone inside his house talking to a cop at his door? Someone who assumes holding a baby as a strong indication of a nonthreatening posture?

I'm dumb enough to reach for a cell phone or a wallet in front of a cop. It's what my arms are for.

I just called the police and told them you were doing the same thing.

When they come to your house, make sure you follow their orders...

50-year-old is waving gun around with one hand and has his 9-month-old grandkid in the other. Neighbors call police. Man goes back inside house.

Police arrive and finally the man opens the door, he is still holding the baby.

Man reaches down for something that the cops can't see and the cop shoots him and kills him. (Turns out that it was a cell phone). They did find several weapons in the house.

The real key to this story for me, however, is that the cop that shot and killed the man has a long history of shootings. This is the 6th person he has killed in the past 6 years (he shot a 7th person, but they survived).

They have all been 'investigated' and 'justified', but the majority of cops never shoot anyone, let alone shoot and kill six people in different incidents.

Has he become desensitized to shooting people?

Has he developed such a hair trigger that he immediately implements deadly force at the first hint of danger?

Or is he just a statistical anomaly?

It should be noted that this is Scottsdale, which is a very wealth upper-middle-class community. It isn't like he is working inner city Phoenix .

hmmm...perhaps?

Well, I'm not illmyrin nor am I sweeny, so I'm not stupid enough to get myself killed during an encounter with police officers.

This is why I'll still be alive after the cops leave, and there-for able to return the favor.
