GW2 isnt a pvp only game,though.. the pve will be as vast and in depth as the pvp, so anything they made in gw1 can work in gw2 as well.

The arena 5v5 PvP is done with fixed stats so even if you can buy power for other parts of the game, the serious competition doesn't have to worry about pay to win.

I suppose they could make more powerful gear for PvE and WvW, but I would guess that any edges there would be marginal compared to strategy and skill.

I could possibly see them selling armor with stats that match what you can get in game. So if the level 80 sword gives +80 crit, then you could buy a level 80 sword with +80 crit and not have to worry about waiting for the random drop or spending in-game currency to buy one from a vendor. Saves the person spending money some time, but doesn't actually give them an advantage in game.

I could support something like that. I am beyond the point in life were I am willing to spend 30+ hours in uninterrupted video game time per week raiding since having a kid, so I wouldn't mind being able to drop a couple of bucks to buy something that some 20-Something kiddie has all the time in the world to farm for.

If they do pay to win the game will fail.

I'm encouraged by this game.
