The GW1 shop didn't offer anything that gave you a combat advantage. It was cosmetic or else stuff like bag space that's convenient, but not like just buying +10% damage.

I assume GW2 will be the same way.

Also people will always pay to win in any MMO. I remember back in EQ1 I got offered $2500 for my character. I said no, which in retrospect I regret seeing as I quit a few months later.

SWTOR lets people pay to win by giving them special advantages if they buy the collector's edition for $149.

all you can buy in cash shops are cosmetic look gear, mounts and extra char/ slot space.

maybe some other fun things, but no + stats gear or weapons or items

Guild wars 1 has been out for however many years and there still is nothing like that. If it's fun cosmetic kind of stuff I don't mind paying for it every once in awhile to support the game since it's free anyway.

The MMO market has been inching its way towards "pay to win" for decades now. I remember back in EQ1 it would have been absolutely unthinkable for SOE to sell ingame items for real cash. Now in EQ2 you can buy all sorts of stuff in their store, including items with stats. Even wow has an item store now, although it doesn't let you buy anything that gives you a combat advantage.

GW2 will probably move towards that too. But there's no reason to think it'll move any faster than the rest of the genre, and good reason to think it might move slower, given GW has had a store for years and never offered items that influence combat.

Guild wars developers are not going to put power items in the store. They have stated it explicitly in interviews. They never did any such thing in guild wars 1, and in guild wars 2 they have to be just as (if not more so) concerned with balance issues than gw1. Its honestly just silly to suggest they would do so.
