They probably want to focus on the DaVinci code aspect of the game and the skeet organization angle with Freemasons and illuminati. I thnk here is a certan appeal to it. London would be an awesome setting too, but industrial age London would really be cool.

Yeah I would pick something like 1850 london over 1780 london or whatever time period it is.

But then I'd also pick 1920s new york over 1780 new york, which was a city of like 40k people.

Colonial America is an extremely strange choice of settings.

Don't forget that there aren't many wars fought on American soil so having multiple factions here limits your choices.

I was not aware that historical accuracy was relevant to a fantasy video game.

They also can't really set it too late in history without dealing with the fact that even a Civil War-era gun is going to put a quick end to Desmond's fancy swordplay.

The 20s would give you early skyscrapers and the mob and prohibition.

edit: Although yeah I guess the gun issue would change things a bit. Hadn't thought of that.

It's not, but if you hate America and everything about it, and, most especially white people, it becomes a good reason to bitch about a game.

Well, considering the game is really a work of historical fiction and not fantasy, I'd say its relevant.

holy butthurt, batman!

edit: It's relevant because a lot of what makes the AC games fun is exploring cities and seeing the recreations of actual impressive historical buildings. They have generally done an excellent job with that in the previous entries. There really are no cool impressive buildings in the american colonial period that I can think of. I mean there's buildings associated with the war but none of them were architectural marvels or anything you would want to spend a lot of time climbing around.
