Rewarding for legal hits is common in football. People make the pro bowl and are hired based on that.


The idea of paying people to hurt people is mostly problematic if it leads to illegal hits or intentionally going for knees or trying to use the helmet illegally. IF they found the rewards system encouraged to and lead to that behavior that is very damning.

Rewards for tackles are one thing. Rewards for hurting someone are something entirely different.

You don't think a DE who is known for knocking QBs down hard doesn't get more in his contract? You think Dick Butkus didn't get paid more because he was trying to rip the other teams head off?


It is even more blatant in hockey when they have guys who are enforcers.


Like I said, hitting someone really hard and hurting them is significantly different than going for their knees or leading with your helmet.
