There is a lot of talk about what is an appropriate penalty for the bounties that were being offered. And while multi-game suspensions might seem rough, they aren't a big deal if they are done at the start of a season.

Teams can still make the playoffs and have their dirty players back in time to play in them.

Goodell could send a much stronger message by disallowing the offending players from participating in the playoffs in their entirety for these infractions and those in the future.

No NFL player cares about a fine, regardless of the amount. $20K? Who cares! Besides, we knocked that SOB out of the game!

I guarantee if the penalty included suspension for the playoffs that there would be a lot fewer incidents.

There are a lot of dirty out-of-control players (on all teams) that need to be removed from the league, either temporarily or permanently if they persist in their behavior.

Do you know who is really screwed here? The Rams. They did nothing wrong and will pay with the firing of Gregg Williams.

Ban the coaches from football for life, ban the players for a full season.

Let's just ban the Saints this entire year.

That way the season ticket holders get their money back, the players don't need to get paid.

The Super Bowl gets moved to another city and all is right in the world.

I have been reading and watching a lot on this since it happened. There better be an investigation into all teams, since most of the players are saying it happens in every locker room.

/rant off.

I am not condoning what happened, I just think this is being blown up by the media.

I see a lot of fishing in my future this fall.

I said the same thing when Spygate happened since we know ALL teams did it. The Pats are the only ones that got called out for it. You better learn to live with it for the next few years kiddo.

The media definitely shares a lot of the blame.

It is the media who glorifies hard defensive hits (remember the show 'Jacked up?' and have for decades.

Defense used to be about tackling. Now it is about trying to hit someone so hard that you knock them out of the game.

Then you are naive. They might not have a bounty system like Williams did, but if you talk to ANY defensive player it's ALL about hurting the opponent.

The fact he was an offensive guy means nothing. It was/is a great quote.

I heard it this morning from Mike Golic who is a defensive guy.
