Garth I wouldn't get mad at you for coming up with 100 examples of white christian bankers doing the same thing. Hell, you don't see Italians in shocked disbelief over someone referencing the Goodfellas.

edit: Not to make light of exterminating people, but talking crap about Jews... is not equal to exterminating. People talk crap about every minority and majority. If you only knew how much bad mouthing peole say about 'white people'.

Money handling was not considered unclean by early Christian churches but the practice of Usury was considered against god's laws. Jewish dogma doesn't have the same restrictions against charging interest.
This is also oversimplified. There are laws against usury, but they generally only apply between Jews.

The biggest reason the Jews were hated is because they tend to function as middlemen. No one likes the middleman. This same process can be seen in other ethnic groups like Armenians. But the armenians aren't well known in the west, so no one really cares about them.
If you were a peasant in Europe, you borrowed from a Jew, and the Jew in turn would get his capital from a wealthy christian noble. Both would profit from the ruinous interest at the expense of the peasant. That is why during peasant revolts, the Jews were the first to be attacked, to wipe clean any debts. The wealthier nobles would usually defend the Jews to save their own investments. The peasant meanwhile was ground into dust to pay the terrible interest rates the Jews had to charge to cover their own loans from the nobles.
This all changed with the rise of the big Christian banking houses like the Fuggers and Medici, which essentially drove the jewish moneylenders out of business until the modern era.
