Monday that gas prices climbed last week to $3.88 a gallon, up 81 cents since the start of the year. That is the highest pump price since August 2008, before the financial meltdown.
Post-ABC poll shows that 60 percent of independents who say they’ve been hit hard by surging gas prices also say they definitely won’t support Obama in his bid for reelection.

Fuel prices will hurt Obama but if he ends up against Romney everyone is a loser anyway.

Even if it's up by $1, that comes out to a whole maybe 20 to 50 dollars a month for most people. I can't see how 20 to 50 dollars more a month will break anyone that isn't already being hurt by the economy. So it's probably mental.
edit: People like romney or obama will never be able to relate to anybody that has difficulty coming up with an extra $100 a month.. I doubt they've had to worry about $100 since they were in high school.
