Surprising Yuk is for this.

Now the only reason is to see if you fit within the culture of the place you work. It has nothing to do with how well you will do your job. It should not be allowed.

It should not be illegal to ask for it.

I know if I asked one of my guys for this information and they actually gave it to me, I'd reconsider them working for me. If they can't be trusted to protect their own privacy, how can I trust them to protect my company secrets?

So talking to people in private on your own personal account is not protecting your privacy? considering the only person that can get on there is yourself? lol wow some of you are fucked up

How does it infringe your free speech rights? That's stupid. You can say whatever you want, they just won't hire you. You don't have a right to a job.

Don't be dumb.

dude.. by giving them your LOGIN INFO, what stops them for clicking on the "messages" tab and check your personal message? To think for one second that they actually wouldn't check is being naive.

Still not a free speech issue. Your right to freedom of speech is against the government, not against private individuals or companies. If your company wants to fire you because you support gay rights it can do that under the 1st amendment. There are probably other laws that prevent it but that's the point.

I support making it illegal. But it's not about the 1st amendment and a right to freedom of speech. It's about us deciding as a society that some things are none of a companies business. The same way we say they can't ask you if you're married and that sort of thing.

I wouldn't hire anybody if they were dumb enough to give me any of their personal passwords. That would be an excellent tool.

No it's not about about free speech at all. It' about invasion of privacy. It's my own personal account, not the company's. They have no claims to my account and they can't ask me for that. If they did, it's in my rights to refuse. It's not just about you, but it's about everyone who talks to you. a lot of people tell me personal things about their lives in PM's, do I want some dip shit HR manager snooping around in there to find things to gossip about? fuck no. fuck him.

Good thing this will never happen in Canada. If it does happen it will be a very small amount of companies ( less than 1%) just like drug test.

Only about 2 % of companies in Canada require a drug test, so the odds that they'll start being fascist cunts about FB is slim to none.

The places I have heard of ask you to log into to your Facebook account and show an HR person your wall.

That's stupid, what if you have a different view on politics, or sexual orientation, or you're just very opinionated, BUT you only have a small amount of people that can see your wall ( IE it's not open to the public) there are too many variables for this rule to make any sense.

Right, and I agree they shouldn't be able to do it. Just like they can't ask if you're married or have kids.

they cant not hire you based on political ideas or religious afiliations
they sholdnt be allowed to judge people based on their facebook posts.
if you want to be a racist zealot christian, then by all means, feel free.
but you cant be denied a job because of it. well, unless your going around the office making threats based on your ideology.

same goes for if you want to be a total man slut or crack whore in your off time.
so long as you show up and produce what they ask of you, then your personal life should be off limits
