Should be illegal for potential employers to ask for your password. It should also be illegal for them to even look at it before giving you a job. Free speech.

What kind of place is America becoming?

Yup, agreed totally.

I find the argument " but durr if FB employees can see it then it's already public hurr durr im dumb"

By that logic, anything with a login and PW should be allowed to be given to employers. google employees can see your mail, MS employees can see your mail. Anyone that owns a company that you sign up to can see all your info so why don't just put it all out there in the open ?

and FB isn't just about what you put on your wall, there are private aspects of it such as PM's, so I guess employers should be allowed to see what you talk about in private with everyone?

some of you really don't care about personal freedom.

they should be able to look at anything you make public. anything private should be off bounds.

just like they shouldn't be able to force you to show them all your mail and correspondence but if you send a public letter to the president they should be able to look at that.

Why the hell is this even allowed. Its unbelievable. It infringes on our free speech rights

Take this to the Supreme court. Sue the employers who do this.

How does it infringe your free speech rights? That's stupid. You can say whatever you want, they just won't hire you. You don't have a right to a job.

If you work for a law firm and your Facebook page shows you engaging in illegal activities it would most certainly impact on your job, this wouldn't be a problem except it seems the majority of people on Facebook are idiots.

dude.. by giving them your LOGIN INFO, what stops them for clicking on the "messages" tab and check your personal message? To think for one second that they actually wouldn't check is being naive.

It should not be illegal to ask for it.

I know if I asked one of my guys for this information and they actually gave it to me, I'd reconsider them working for me. If they can't be trusted to protect their own privacy, how can I trust them to protect my company secrets?

Also you pick and choose who can't or can't see things so the whole idea of " it's public" is pretty stupid to use as an argument. it's only public if you allow it to be.
