Since you are going to be doing more than games, a 2700 makes sense for you. As opposed to the 2500, it does hyperthreading and a few other nifty things that games get no benefit from, but which many other applications do.

You get more features if you compare the i7 2700 with the i5. However there are some reports that show the 2700 being unstable. The 2600 i7 is the best bang for the buck.
