Why buy a monitor? I'd go with an HDTV. I currently use a 42" Samsung as my monitor.

And there is no system that is taking advantage of the 8 cores in the FX8100...

Yet

performance/cost intel can't touch AMD. It's a simple statement of fact.

IMO you have more built in longevity with the AM3+ socket than you do with any current Intel platform.

By all means spend 600 bucks on a cpu - knock yourself out...

I have an HD TV. It can be hiiked up to a computer, too. Is this the way to go? Holy mother of pearls. I dont want surround sound. I live in an apartment building and respect my neighbors sound borders.

So which I7 mother board and CPU should I get? Either Frys or Newegg, or Best buy, but I never see deals at best Buy.

Reese probably thought about Intel that actually HAS speed advantage over AMD 8150

And tell Modeeb what motherboard he has to buy, in last 3 years we

saw sockets 775, 1155, 1156, 1366 and 2011 from Intel

And probably 30+ different chipsets

He is too interested in continuing this intel/amd pissing match. It's been going on since I had my new build thread going.

i7-2600k which he just linked to has a CPUperformance/price rating of 29.82
AMD FX 8150 has a rating of 34.37

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html#cpuvalue

But sure spend an extra 100-200 getting that extra performance

According to http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html, the I7 I listed is heads and above ( by 2 tiers ) the AMD chip.

I have 2 machines. One is the one I have at home, the other one work bought me.

Home machine running WinXP64
AMD Phenom 4 940
8gb ram
ATi HD6850 video card
1x 160gb SSD drive

Work Machine running Win7x64
Intel I7 2600
10gb ram
Ati HD6850
1x250gb 10k Raptor drive

Playing SWTOR, which uses more CPU than GPU when playing, I get 30-40 MORE fps on my work computer than I do my home computer. My home machine was built by myself and the work machine was off of HP's retail site.

Everything that I do on the work machine is quicker, faster and better than my home machine.

I've been building computers since I had my 1st computer in 1988, which was an IBM 8088 that ran at 4 MHz and had a red turbo button to bump that up. Oh..it had a 10mb hard drive as well.

I was an AMD fanboi. LIke I stated earlier, this is the 1st machine that I have used in 10+ years that didn't have an AMD chip in it. There is a reson AMD is "shifting" its focus to the mobile market and away from high end desktop processors.

Intel fanboi here...

I build about 2-3 systems a month for gamers and for my company. Here is a system that will do what you are asking and will be viable for a few years.

Intel i5 2500K - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072
Gigabyte mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128502
EVGA 560ti - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130604
OCZ 120gb SSD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227706
WD 750gb slave - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136950
12g corsair memory - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233146
Seasonic 650W PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151088
Corsair 400R case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139008
DVD burner - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136236
Samsung monitor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001388
win7 pro 64bit - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116992

CPU-$220
MOBO-$130
GPU-$225
SSD-$160
RAM-$85
PSU-$140
Slave drive-$100
Case-$100
DVD burner-$17
Monitor-$200
OS-$140

=$1517

Had to compromise on some things to keep it around $1500. Will not need an aftermarket cooler if you do not plan on overclocking. You can tweak the size of the drives or the OS and burner etc. Good luck!

Edit: You can get a decent case for half the price (Rosewill's) but from experience, Corsair has THE best cable management out there. If you do not care about that get a different ATX-mid tower (I recommend the Rosewill Challenger)
