Yes as it stand there are black,brown and white hispanics but there really isn't such a race of people.Nixon needed a term for brown people in America and hispanic is the term he chose and it grew to mean anyone from Latin America.

They are classified as white when they kill black people. But if the same hispanic was shot by bubba, he would magically transform into a non-white latino.

Also, it's not really Hispanic people being classified as white. It gives white people the ability to be classified as Hispanic.

hispanic merely refers to the fact they come from a spanish speaking country.
and you are correct, spaniards do not like being called hispanic, to them that refers to the latin americans.

It all depends...
If a Hispanic person is a victim of a hate crime, they are "Hispanic", "Latino", or very rarely "black Hispanic".
If a Hispanic person is the perpetrator of a hate crime, they are "white", or very rarely, when their skin is as brown as can be: "white Hispanic".
The problem with all the racial delineations in the US (and anywhere really) is that while we attempt to recognize races with the intent of providing them representation and assistance as minorities, what we actually do is continue the trend of racial differentiation, which of course, is the basis of differential treatment, and racism...
