I actually eat very little processed foods and the only things from the freezer section you will find in my house are frozen spinach and peas....and the occasional quart of Ben and Jerry's.

I just happen to like potted meat on crackers from time to time (with yellow mustard and diced onions).

Got a HUUUUGE garden going in this year. Still have a ton of canned stuff from last years garden...which was a lot smaller. Planning on putting in 200 tomato plants this year and already have almost an acre of turnips and beets in the ground.

I didn't read the whole thread but it doesnt have to be passed through ammonia to be edible. The ammonia is used to kill bacteria. Remember all the ecoli outbreaks from large scale fast food chains? Jack in the box ect. Remember hearing about any lately? People want low cost easily available food. This process makes it possible while keeping it safe. This actually might end up effecting my job.

It's not funny. The peoples races that are losing their jobs are irrelevant. Fact is the stuff is safe. Its definitely edible. Just some stupid band wagon cause for the masses to arrghbargghle about.

Edit: It's not just bpi that is going to be effected. Where do you think they get the beef trim? All the beef processors that supply them are going to feel it.

And do you know why they want to kill all the bacteria with ammonia (which normal beef doesn't have to be subject to, btw)?

Perhaps to make it fit for human consumption. Ie. Edible.

Bush and the f-tard republicans let the food industry put crap in our food products and not label it. It's complete BS and really angers me.

Sigh...I deal with this stuff on a daily basis. All of is is tested for ecoli before it is sent to wherever it's going. The large majority of it..I'm talking 100 truckloads to 1 pallet ratio is free from ecoli and goes on it's merry way. The stuff that comes up positive is subject to more stringent procedures to kill it. The beef trim that they use to make the stuff basically looks like beef bacon. I wouldn't cook it as a main course but its perfectly edible and people have been eating it without ANY issues for years. The public is safer having it in production than they were before. When was the last major outbreak of a food borne illness related to beef at one of the large fast food chains?

People want cheap, safe beef in large amounts. This process makes it possible and no one was crying about it before it became the bandwagon arghbargle item of the week. You've eaten it I'm sure and are none the worse for it.

Actually there were a lot of beef based outbreaks when Bush started deregulating the beef industry. (In fact, I stopped eating beef for about a year during that time)

Name one large scale fast food chain...On the scale of the jack in the box outbreaks in the 90's.
