Yeah Ayn Rand or objectivism is not a serious topic in college.
Most good colleges try and make non history courses about the subject matter and not the names involved. For example if you studied economics you either studied Marx or you went to a bad school. Rand is not even remotely serious as an economist and her contribution is just a retread pop philosophy.

Yeah it seems like there are a lot of better people to study if you want to get a libertarian economic argument. I think it would be doing a disservice to the philosophy to pick Ayn Rand as its proponent. Sort of like a version of the straw man fallacy. Or using Al Gore to argue against man made global warming.
