Religious practices are nuts..

Just look at the body of christ thing and the wine..

That's just cannibalism, as I said the Christian god is a Blood God!

Humans are crazy. These people were driven by piety perhaps, but what can you say about those that take pleasure in hanging from hooks pierced through their back? People do all sorts of crazy crap. They're one sandwich short of a picnic.

People call this the rational age but humanity as a whole is very irrational. The fact that most everyone is like that makes it so that most people dont notice. Its the norm. I wonder if other intelligent tool using species in the universe are as irrational as humans.

I suspect that the most successful species eventually in the universe turns out to be machine intelligence's which suffer few of the weaknesses that organic intelligence's like humans experience

You are so very hopelessly wrong on both counts. Don't take that badly (personally), but you really are, flat out wrong.

I';ll leave your first point alone for now, mostly because it takes more time to explain. The second one is easier to explain in the form of the following question. Show me a non biological machine that defensively & offensively self replicates its own adaptable blueprint for survival over millions of years.

The signs are all around that humanity is totally and completely irrational even with all we know now

And most likely tool using biological intelligence's if they advance far enough probably invent machine intelligence's which eventually supplant and replace them like in the movie AI and the Matrix

Just a side note - this is a fallacy. Assuming that because something hasn't already happened (or that there are no immediately presentable examples) doesn't mean it's impossible.

Electronic computers have only been around since the mid 20th century. Their rate of evolution is stunning and its increasing rapidly

We are rational beings motivated by irrational impulses.

If we are to create an intelligent self-motivated machine we will have to give it equally irrational impulses.

Their focus is all wrong. Like Mel Gibson they focus on his death and suffering not his rising and life on the third day.

Wrong focus

Who are you to say they are focusing on the wrong aspect?

I read an article about this a year or two ago and it said a guy had been doing this for over 25 years. He obviously got something out of it.

I wouldn't consider this to be a religious practice, but a spiritual or even cultural one. It's completely voluntary and if it brings them closer to their God, then all the better.

He could have ended it at any time but didn't. The endurance of that suffering and death illustrates the amount of love he has for us.
