I would have gotten my ass busted if I'd carried on like that as a child, frankly. Also, I hate to say this, but it's pretty obvious to me that this kid either needs a lot less bacon, cheese in a can, etc. in his diet, or he needs to be far more physically active than what he is.
Now that said, I think the adults are going about it all wrong. Why make this grand production of it? If you're the parent of a small child, you control the food that is allowed in the house, and you prepare the meals. That child isn't footing the grocery bill, and he's not cooking his own food, either. If there's a certain food or group of foods his parent(s) don't want him to routinely gorge himself on, then his parent(s) should either only buy/prepare this food every once in a rare while, or simply stop buying/preparing it altogether. It's not that hard a concept.
Yeah, the kid will probably throw a fit, but so what? Sometimes in life he's not going to get everything he wants the second he wants it, and he might as well come to grips with that fact now.
