I was thinking about this today as I was reading this http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/482229-Public_Knowledge_Asks_FCC_to_Investigate_Data_Capped_Broadband_Plans.php?
I think data caps are bad imo. They keep me from wanting to do things onthe inet, which imo is limiting my freedom of speech. Is it my fault the carries didnt build their networks with future proofing in mind? No. they why am i being throttled or given surcharges for using too much data? why is 150 or 250 gigs for wired services, or 2 to 5 gigs of wireless data the magic numbers? I dont understand that. I like sprint for my phone, i have had it for almost 11 years and i am happy with them and the fact i have unlimited data.

Existing infrastructure will simply not support "infinite" data for all users.

The long term solution is to heavily invest in infrastructure, which means a huge hike in fees.

If I was a betting man, I'd buy stock in the companies that build 4GLTE towers.

This is going to make me sound like a luddite, but so be it. Honest to god, can't people unplug for all of three seconds anymore? Is it really that much of a sacrifice to wait till you get home, to watch a movie? Seriously.

We're turning into a society of people who can't even use the goddamned bathroom without sitting there on the can and working our thumbs. Why do people do that? For advice on how to use the restroom? (If they're old enough to read text, they should already know.) For moral support when they're constipated? (Can't that wait until later?) To complain to the facility coordinator that the toilet paper is not to their liking? (It's never to anyone's liking, stfu and deal with it.) To watch a video on the history of the toilet? (I don't want to dissuade someone's curiosity here, but when you're actually sitting there on the toilet, don't you have better things to do?) Who the hell even knows why? So many people are so far gone on this whole issue that I'd believe just about anything at this point.

You might notice that it's usually the bigger companies that impose caps like that (Sprint has unlimited data for smartphones because they have excess infrastructure, ie fewer customers). Larger companies simply cannot reasonably keep up with the skyrocketing demand and the only realistic solution is to throttle your connection.

It's all about bandwidth conservation. Too many people are using up too much bandwidth torrenting garbage vampire movies. Your freedom of speech is not infringed upon because the content of your data remains unaltered despite how long it takes to say it.

You are forgiven for not understanding the story behind the problem, and even your aggravation is understandable. But you've got the wrong idea, mang. They do this so that you (or the next person) doesn't lock out other paying customers or leave them with a 56k equivalent of a connection.

I'd rather be throttled than told to go pound sand and pay by the byte, but I also have probably never gone over a gig of data in a month on my cell.

And, pretty much everything that Blind said, too.

I think if you're going to advertise unlimited data, you should provide unlimited data.

Unlimited data will never truly be what the actual word means. Unlimited data is impossible, as long as there is transfer there will be bottlenecks. I will offer you unlimited data for 5 dollars a month, however it's going to be on my old 14.4 that I still have sitting around. It's an unlimited connection time, not speed.

I swear these entitled children today feel like they should be able to throw a fit because they can't watch a movie and play happy birds or whatever it's called at the same time, at the speed they want. Imagine if half of them tried to play AC on dial up *I did* or tried to play the original command and conquer vs your friend using direct dial. For the love of pete just be happy that you can pick up your PHONE and instead of dialing 411, you say "Pizza" into the damn thing and a bunch of red pins pop up showing you not only the restaurants but every picture some retard has snapped of the food they made, a menu, the name of the waitress working there right now, her phone number, bust size, and turn ons and offs.

Ludicrous
