A developer asked on a thread on this very board about which other BGs people would like to see next for an all-levels event. It looks to be in the works already.

people liked thid because of /level.

if your going to grind to a BG theres no point going to thid. might as well go straight to molvik, which is what people have been doing.

as ive said before wilton has the best layout of any BG imo!

but i agree, prehaps rotating the maps forward so thid gets breamar, breamar gets wilton ect ect so that its not the same thing over n over.

wilton would be the last of the " lower " teir since it has no towers, while molvik leirvik and cathal would rotate.

I love the new Leirvik map, the old one sucked bull balls. Can't for the life of me figure out why it died almost overnight when they changed it. Thid is popular because of /level 20 and Molv because it has very limited ToA influence(a few arts and RoG). Rotating the maps around might be a good idea, they do it on a freeshard but don't let the players choose, since 90% of the time it's going to be Thid and Molvik.
They should maybe make the BG's influence the game more like in WAR, take a keep or tower in a bg and it counts towards opening DF or something similar. Perhaps having keep ownership adds xp and coin drops for the levels the BG's is open to.

They don't need more customers if their customer support is going to be making mistakes like this.

See my post above for why OLD Leirvik was so popular & why the new one isn't.

Those are things that made DAoC so popular early on - the blending of PvP and PvE. Unfortunately, Mythic abandoned the PvE game years ago on a gamble that going full on PvP would result in far cheaper development costs while retaining a large playerbase. The gamble failed. Miserably.

The only hope for DAoC would have been a move to a F2P format like Turbine did for DDO and LoTRO. A renewed PvE focus would bring large numbers of people to the game, including a fresh batch interested in PvP.

The problem Mythic faces today is a substantial portion of the remaining player-base are PvP "elitists" who snub their noses at PvE and howl like stuck pigs at the mention of any development on that aspect as opposed to PvP.

So you're left with a very niche game that appeals to a tiny (and shrinking) player-base.

I like the idea of a rotating map cycle, as has been mentioned before. However, each map change should happen to either Thidranki OR Molvik for a duration of 2-3 weeks if that is what they are going to do.

I recommend:
1) making the mobs in the zone that 'ports' to Thid or Molvik level-appropriate.

2) teleporting all toons (when they FIRST log in) back to thier realms' capitol city if they were logged into the BG last time they logged.

A live event for other level battlegrounds would rock, in my opinion, except that there is no real reward for being in that BG, as no RPs are earned for the lower ones. At least in CV you get the reward for killing that central mob (a buff iirc) and more RPs. Figuring out a decent reward would be heavily important to make it seem worthwhile for most people. Suggestions on a reward, anyone?

But to me that doesn't make sense, the layout in old Leirvik was freaking horrible unless you liked camping keeps and towers. There was almost nowhere to fight in the open where you didn't either get guard aggro, mob aggro or casters/archers hitting you from safety. Sure you could camp the portal islands but you tended to get lots of adds from players leaving the PK or you could go in a group and be bored to tears killing solos as they came out. The little action I've had in the new layout is lightyears more fun.

i loved leirvik back in the day, i thought the next leirvik was at best ok, the third leirvik had it's moments.

here's something everyone in this thread has forgotten, the bg's were made so players could experience all the facets of rvr.

thid gave us the first bridges, molv gave us the first twrs and leirvik was about learning how to use the water/boats and sieging from twrs.. man those scouts boats were a blast back then.

i agree that the latest leirvik map is too big, i like the terrain tho, rolling hills, rocks and watch towers were all great ideas.. but it's just too big...

if they cut out 50% of the water and 25% of the land it'd be an awesome map.

if they did that, would it save leirvik? the answer is a big fat no!!!.. why you ask? thats simple, it's all about having to re template.. that costs plat alot of ppl don't have,

now if you could just template for lvl 50 at lvl 39 or 44.5 like we used to be able to do back in the "old" days, then it'd still be jumping in there.

but with all the new gear (dragon slayer, sidi, ml10, dragon drops etc) with the best stuff being lvl 50 required to use it's just not going to happen again.

the same go's for cathal valley.

are you seriously going to template at lvl 39 - 44.5 and 49.5 just to re temp again at 50?.... hell no...

it was the new gear that killed most of the bg's, not the maps

so mythic changing the maps or encouraging people to play in these bg's isn't going to make a difference, at best i think they could open cathal to lvl 50's sub rr5

and adding a rp box/nest etc holiday quest for the bg's 25-34 and 40-44 on a permanent basis.

edit: i see a lot of people complaining about mythic revamping old/low items making them more useable.. do you think mythic figured out the problem with the bg's?

i do, but what else can they do about it?

It was small, and had an easy layout.
Whenever you went there you could find action almost immediately.
Because there was lots of action people went there.
Because many people went there, there was almost constant tumultuous action.
Stealthers could sneak succesfully. Nukers could tower-camp successfully. The rest could group 4TW. And there was lots of siege warfare.
It was a really successful BG, and lots of people had lots of fun there.

Then they made it big & then bigger still.
Now you can run around there for hours & never meet anyone.
So... now no-one goes there except to PvE.

Pretty simple really.
Quick action breeds more action.
Boredom = Dead BG.
