1. Option 1 for DAOC is maintain the status quo-and that means, stagnate and die.

2. Or...they could fiddle around with some low cost options that might actually increase the number of players. Options? Like what?

How about developing the BG's? The "hardcore" NF lovers have had their way for years, and what has been the result for the BUSINESS that goes by the name of DAOC? Stagnation and decline. That's right, DAOC is a business. Businesses need new customers to survive and thrive.

If you are a business and you have a niche market that you invest little to nothing in (battlegrounds), yet it does as well or better than your main business (NF), seems to me that a little tinkering should take place to see what can be done with the niche market to increase the customers buying into that niche. Tinker, watch the numbers, tinker, watch the numbers, that's what I'm talking about.

What would happen if Mythic put back in the old Leivik map? How much would that cost? Nobody plays the "new" Leirvik and the old one used to be popular. What if each week they rotated the level 49 BG one of the non cathal valley BG maps? Use all the BG maps and have weekly change that would probably be quite fun. We are talking about low cost options for people to come back and play, or continue playing...why not try it? What would happen if Mythic actually put a CENTRAL keep in Cathal Valley? What could be done to cater to the crowd playing DAOC that is below RR5?

Why cater to the below RR5 crowd? Because they are and will be your new customers. As long as NF and Lab remain the only options for level 50 RvR and by extension character development, the game continues to stagnate and die. It does not have to be that way. Mythic needs to experiment with areas of the game that show signs of life. For the life of the game, battlegrounds have been treated almost as an afterthought rather than a viable and significant profit center.

rebranding imho.

i'd be happy with a similar pvp/interrupt system in any other game really.

Didn't they just do that (sort of) by adding the quests and NPCs etc to the BGs? It's in the next patch.

Except he asked for old maps, not new ones. They have people working on it still, live event comes to mind here.

Leirvik used to have great action 24/7!
you could treb the towers from the CK.
It was so small you could garantie to find the action within seconds.
Then people started complaining that it was a stealthers paradise & it got expanded twice & now NO-ONE goes there.
Better a Stealthers playground than an empty BG.
It's just typical MMORPG Players Syndrome:- Complain about what you've got until they "improve" it so much that no-one uses it any more.

Players have proven they like the Thidranki and Molvik maps (and possibly CV). Why not just have all the BGs up to Thidranki have the Thidranki map, all the BGs between Thid and Molvik have the Molvik map, and Leirvik and CV have the CV map?

Leirvik zone layout flat out sucked, sorry...

After having a blast in Molvik, then leveling out of it, you quickly realize why you stayed in Molvik in the first place.

CV was full of stealth zergs and duelers with the oddball small or 8-man to steamroll everything in sight.

That is why people stopped going to CV, it became a ghetto version of NF.

Cheesehammer: Age of the Regen Train, good luck killing it.
Somewhere "south" of $100million to develop, and now subscriptions are somewhere south of 100k, gotta love the irony.

Interesting idea.. but one has to wonder.. is it REALLY the map that made those BGs what they are today?! I think Thidranki owed much to the fact that you could /level and have a toon that you could instantly take out there.. even if you were cannon fodder for the first few levels (which tend to come fast anyway).

Molvik on the other hand, was the BG were you could play without having too much ToA crap involved, since MLs only start at level 40.. and there's only a few artifacts that work in Molvik. Also, once you levelled past 39, the XP needed to gain levels became increasingly higher (which today is less of an issue.. but in the old days.. it was heavy).

So I think much of the popularity is due to other factors, which in today's game aren't there anymore.. but what they have now versus the other BGs, is actual players in them.. no matter how great the map of any of the other BGs is, nobody is going to make a toon to run around in there alone, days on end.

Food for thought... hence why it would be nice if Mythic picks another BG to open up for a weekend... there's probably people that have never actually RvR'ed in Braemar, Wilton, New Leirvik, ... hence it would be something 'new'.. something 'fresh'

I actually like the new Leirvik map. Actually, it's almost like a mini Agramon with a CK in the middle. There are some good valley's / hills and bridges to catch some action.

Leveled a Cabby through BG's only on Classic and it was decent action for 1v1. Now, probably not so much...

I liked the old one too though.
