Well yeah it's hard to get zerged when the server has 12 people on it total.

I bet it isn't though

Those 12 people are probably an 8man and their 4 bots (that they farm).

Normal daoc could never hope to compare to Mordred. Mordred was the best gaming experience I've ever had, but the constant changes to the main game without modifying the mordred server hurt it too much in the long run.

I'm talking about things like:

- Letting radar users cheat for too long. Radar was much more harmful on mordred than on the normal servers for obvious reasons.

- BDs, warlocks, vampiirs never being toned down. They should have been omitted on Mordred, but they have also been acknowledged as OP in the normal servers at various times in daocs history.

- PLing never being nerfed, especially with necros

- TOA being inaccessible to the majority of players, especially independent players, but being 100% necessary to compete in pvp combat.

- TOA creating large imbalances in pvp mechanics.

- Porting in combat never being addressed

- Too many porting locations allowing players to move all over the place. This hurt pvp on mordred in more ways than you can imagine. For example I used to have epic 20-30min long battles in the very beginning that would include chases across many zones. After they put porters in naliten and other places, people could just zone into TNN/Jordheim/camelot any time they were in danger and could also travel to many locations without encountering pvp.

- Spreading the population out with new expansion zones and instancing

I've made bigger lists on what needs to fix mordred, but our TL has always dismissed them since he is an incompetent carebear numbnut. Not to mention, he is a former member of the Dizzy guild from Andred who were known to use radar, exploits, and farming to establish themselves on mordred. Its ironic that our TL was a part of what helped to ruin mordred. He preferred to kiss ass to Mythic than to tell them the problems they should fix. I don't blame him for mordred's problems, but he hindered any improvement that could have happened.

Also, a fun advantage of mordred that no one has mentioned was buffbot hunting.

Mordred is like a big black mole on a hot chicks face. It is, without any doubt a parasite.

Can we just /delete it from the servers.. Hell, we may even reduce lag for Ywain and resolve ghosting

Andy, I hereby charge you with the royal job of unplugging Mordred.

Crying Mordred players should grow a set of nuts and try real man RvR.

I heard a lot of horror stories about Mordred's player base, so I avoided it like the plague.

That more than likely contributed to its collapse more than anything else.

Somewhere "south" of $100million to develop, and now subscriptions are somewhere south of 100k, gotta love the irony.

As usual, 10% of the players, ruining the experience for the rest... happens in most FFA PvP games.. and also happens on Ywain in a somewhat lesser form. Nature of the beast.. and probably also the reason why PvP oriented MMO's have a bad rep.

As for the horror stories.. they were all true

Depending on who you were, it was actually fun that way. It made it more interesting and gave the server a story. Slayer and torcan were always evil in my eyes, and the fact that torcan held all the relics was like an evil presence and control of the lands, while when retribution and legends were in control, it felt like the good guys were in control. I'm sure the competitive 8mans that shit on the server didn't like it though.

Mordred was hands down the most fun I ever had with my pants on

I'd go back in a heartbeat if the population revived, which it won't, more's the pity.

If two or three mechanics had been changed back when they became a problem it could have gone on to be one of the greats.

Alas Mythic, being mythic, was unable to muster that last .001% of insight and effort required to iron out the rough edges...

As for the population..yeah it attracted the exploiters, thieves, whores, scammers etc...FOR THAT TIME.

A time before every morally bankrupt pre-pubescent sexually frustrated geek had a nuclear powered desktop.

The meanest, lowdownest, backstabbinest, most blackhearted, rottenest, no good scoundrel to ever show his face on Mordred would be appalled at what is standard and completely accepted behaviour on Ywain today where exploiting, scamming, and flat out stealing are everyday occurances.

At least on Mordred there was accountability...if you talked the talk you better be able to walk the walk.

If you screwed someone over he and his homies might be waitin' for you with some pipes just outside of town to settle up.

Anyone remember the water luri's down by GNA? (might have been on Andred, I started out there till it went tits up). Even the Shadowclan mob that hung out down there and taxed everyone didn't go in the water. I think their leader was an elf named Footfunk or something. Vicious horrid little mf'rs and they OWNED that lake lol. Funny the random things you remember.

Pryden keep/bridge area was such a blast too.

Bandits waiting to gank at every bridge, since you actually had to horse across the world to get to where you wanted to go. Not this lazy ass instant gratification porting everywhere like the kiddies have it now. Traveling was actually traveling and best done in groups.

Guilds were really guilds, you stuck together and fought together like all the time, you had to.

Man that was so much fun.

Bleh thanks OP, you just made me realize how crappy a game DAoC is now compared to back then

edit to add - I remember one time on my healer I had to sneak halfway across hib to join a couple trolls to xp, took like thirty mins of sneaking and when I finally made it and thought I was safe the bastards I was going to join ganked me. Apparently they were inviting people to come join them and when they arrived just whack them. So they just sat there and leveled up on prey that came to them. Genius really, when you think about it. The bastards.

Oh and mobs of greys or greens banding together and dragging purples down in revolt..hehe good times, good times
