Actually I wasn't meaning to address you directly in my rant parts of the post, but rather counter arguments by 8v8ers. You started off by saying that this game is not meant for 1v1, and quite frankly that's a tiresome meaningless argument that never has been and still isn't true. This game has always had a lot of soloers and many aspects of the game's balance are directly affected by the input of solo players. (WL nerfs, archer CS nerf, etc. came entirely due to solo players complaining.)

First of, using a Caster is a horrible example to support your case. They are stupidly OPd in solo/small-scale from a DPS PoV, so they really should be the glass cannons they really aren't. Casters take less melee damage then Assassins, and about the same as Archers. That's plain BS. So whether or not they will like a 5s CC immunity to Purge is really irrelevant to me...join a group to protect you, or take a 50% DPS nerf...your choice.

Secondly, if your Theurg or any decently solo-capable caster can't deal with a 5s kite-off situation, then seriously you have more issues then this immunity. It would be a joke to a competent kiting Caster.

BTW my Skald has SoS, so I can circumvent your second CC after Purging mess anyway.

On the first part of that, why do you think that is? Maybe because CC is stupidly OPd in this game? Yeah I think that might be it.

If you don't have P3 you lose many fights by default. Yeah Minstrel isn't one of them unless they happen to be carrying a fully buffed red con pet, as my almost RR10 Minstrel does. Also a Minstrels stun is hardly the problem in 1v1, because it already fits my ideals given above. Against any player worth a salt it will only last 5-6s anyway, maybe 7s tops. (And set a 1m immunity.)

Minstrels stun is a problem in 2v1 where it enables his Scout buddy to kill you before the stun wears off, or just as it wears off. It's cheese.

Please re-read what I say and don't draw conclusions about things I didn't even say. It's not the fact that you're losing 2v1 or at a disadvantage that I have a problem with (DUH!), I've clearly stated the issue is dying without even being able to move, much less swing your weapon. That is bad game design plain and simple. Shad is talking about the same thing. Being CCed to death, and not fought to death. It's no fun for anyone, and frankly is a little hard to understand how someone would be so masochistic as to support their own misery, rather then seeing that no other competitive PvP oriented game handles full player immobility & inability to control their character in the poor way that DAoC does.

This has cost DAoC more players then you can ever imagine. I can't count the number of friends and guildies I've lost over the years due overwhelmingly to the poor way in which DAoC implemented CC. People want to PLAY their characters no matter if the odds of winning or even getting RPs are ZERO, they just don't like to watch themselves die being unable to move, perform actions, and most of all FIGHT!

I don't think there is a serious solo player in the game who doesn't know that. Yet we still almost all gripe about being zerged and subsequently /rofled, but all that is fair in love & war. This has absolutely nothing to do with my in game experiences or me being disgruntled, this is just game design basics from my PoV and is a part of the game that is terribly bad for solo & small-scale players. (Because all the tools to lessen & nullify the excessive CC have been given mostly to grouping classes, or the classes that are squarely responsible for the problem in the first place! Namely primary CCers. Why they get de-mess and mess-dampen spells is truly unfathomable to me.)

Obviously it's a bit myopic to make that statement as any major change to CC would likely require the re-balance of the entire game.


Anyway, it's just a discussion, it's not like I actually think Mythic will suddenly see the light after so many years, and out-right nerf CC.
