New players definitely don't feel the love of the old days. Actually still have new players every now and again. I agree that /level should take a hike, but then I've got me some 50's. hehe. I'd like to see them bring back the old advisor system, only maybe the advisor could actually make a temp character at the new player's level to run through some battles with them and show them the ropes. I'd sign up for that. I already do that but I usually have to catch them when they're first starting out, or wait until they hit the magic level 20. hehe. DAoC isn't dead, but the in-game community has definitely become far less friendly. It's not the game's fault though. To paraphrase Gandhi, "Be the change."

I'm curious which server you play on that still has /level? It has never been available on Ywain.

DAoC failed for a multitude of reasons despite its extremely fun RvR system.

Personally I think you started your thread with a very wrong assertion right off the bat, which didn't really inspire me to read any further.

Nothing about DAoC as a whole can be called a failure. The game is over 8 years old and remains profitable for EA/Mythic, or you betcha it would have gotten shut down 2-3 years ago. For it's time it was a smashing success by a quite unknown and under-funded company that beat out some "big boys" with much more funding & hype then DAoC had. (Anyone remember Shadowbane? I remember it was going to be the reason that DAoC would never have a chance to succeed, because SB was just too good! Hah! At least that's what the hype machine was telling us. "Play to crush man! Play to CRUSH!" )

Seriously all you little whinning people are pissing me off saying the games dead. It may not have anywhere close to the numbers of WoW but look at all the advertising they do EA needs to not worry so much about all the console games with xbox and ps3. The game has its faults but honostly what game doesnt? IF YOU DONT LIKE THE GAME THEN DONT FREAKING PLAY IT! Some people actually enjoy playing not having to read in /region about all the QQ's baby's.

have fun

some people just have bad days that i can understand i do. No matter what there will be a toon out there thats goin to be better than you no one is ELITE, albs will continue to zerg with no skillz, hibs will do whatever dont pay enough attention to them, and mids will continue to not group and what not.

Oh and lets not forget all the macro farm groups that are still running everyday way to go, lol

Understandable, but why can't they do a few simple things to make the game more enjoyable??

Like buff nps in the bg's or lower time spent in the stupit boat in nf's or increase buff pot timers, etc etc etc...

Based on what you post it does not seem that you really understand (much like Mythic). Most that yell about the game do not hate the game, they love it. They HATE what Mythic has done to DAoC.

While DAoC will never have WoW numbers, WoW is a good example of what can happen. WoW is a good example of how large the market really is.

DAoC is a much better game concept than WoW (three factions vs. two and much better PvP) and yet DAoC peaked less than a year after launch while WoW, an inferior game concept, shows that DAoC need not have peaked. WoW showed that there was much more market available. WoW shows us that when DAoC peaked, the peak had nothing to do with market saturation and everything to do with a clueless Mythic (clueless MJ).

DAoC is still one, if not the, best game around.

I've seen many MMOs but only one manages to keep me "addicted".

In DAoC I can do RvR in all kind of aspects, do PvE with raids/farming/leveling, I can craft and chat in the City, I even can log on and only chat with a "friend" and log out completely satisfied.

Yes ToA like it was implemented was way too hard. But now it's way to easy. A middle thing would be nice.

The only things that drives me nuts are the "PvE Quests" that take place in the frontier. Ok tbh, the players doing nothing else than farming other players that try to achieve that Events drive me nuts. Why not be happy for every one that can finish that things?

Yes the community like it was in the beginning isn't there anymore, the Realm > Guild > Me feeling has nearly gone and sometimes it pains to see realms go down the drain, because of the inability to play together as Realm.

DAoC could be more successful right now as it is, with some advertisment, perhaps a little polish for the gfx/sound, an UI overhaul.

But then there would be new Servers needed.

I had an idea once (happens once or twice a lifetime) make a cluster for beginners and give them a limit what to achieve on that server, when they hit their mark, give the possebillity to transfer for free to the other life Server where all the "high" Players are. That with the background to make it easier for them to RvR without being outranked like it is now.

I love this game and I hope that DAoC will still be alive and kicking for some years to come, and would be more than glad if it gets the deserved revival/upgrade.

Kind regards

Igluna

I'm not sure how we measure failure per the original post, but I have always though that DAOC could have been a much higher and consistent population game if they had done a better job, and more diligent over the years job at marketing. Perhaps all these games at the end of the day are mostly word of mouth (that is how I learned of it and got addicte).

I have heard many times of players going to play other highly marketed games and then they come back to DAOC. It still has the best RvR system which turns PvP into something meaningful - where concepts like realm loyalty and pride come in and turn playing into a perhaps unhealthy 'job' or 'addiction' (this is on top of 'farming'. But the trick with this has always been realm/population balance.

hehe, lets just say that post was when i first awoke this morning, and i couldnt agree more with having buff npc in bg's and all that you said those fixes would be amazing prolly stop some of the hate. I didnt take the time to read every post so i did skim over alot. Now to you semi, first off realize that mythic doesnt own daoc anymore its out of there power in most sense. EA is what does all the fixes and whatever I personally love daoc and have never played WoW but maybe 10min on a trial. I did make a account on here so i could post is that so wrong? lol i was basically commenting to the people that come /region saying this game is dead it sucks, blah blah blah thats all if the game did make some small changes maybe throw a small commercial or something in there and it could be huge for daoc.

i've seen more people come to daoc from WoW than anything most are suprised thats its still around

i just wanted in on the conversation i realize now after goin back and reading it that i prolly should've worded it diff. but oh well

(btw) what the hell is taking them so long to fix a char creation problem today? lol

loyality and realm pride is long gone in this game sadly ive notice over the past few months it's really hard to find guild members that stay in the guild and not just join for the free pl you offer or raids the guild vaults to sell all the quits.

anytime ive mentioned realm pride or loyality in the game everyone laughs, lol

I've watched our numbers drop over half and see them running around in other guilds and its not because its a crap guild we will loan out plats pl people from 1-50 then they have what they want so they leave to repeat the process i honostly just try to keep to myself on the game now
