Servers do cost money

Servers are actually cheap and bandwidth through Verizon is cheap.

Shop around for top of the line blade servers and Verizon hosting you will see it's actually inexpensive in comparison to what they make by 1000Xs.

You really think 4 or 5 k is expensive for servers?

The servers were paid for years ago and maintenance is not what you think it is, it's not like they need oil changes etc.

This ^^^.

Not to mention, mythic is owned by EA. This game could easily go free to pay/play or just reduce the costs.

Yeah.....financial realities do not change just because you are owned by a parent company. Or perhaps you're suggesting EA should take a loss for our benefit?

However cheap servers are they cost money.

By way of example Funcom - before it launched AoC - in its notice to shareholders advised that it had arranged to bring extra servers on line if needed but that if it subsequently had to take them off line it was looking at a $1M charge.
As we know it did bring them on line and then removed them - and amortised the cost over several fincial periods.

So yeah servers are 'relatively cheap' but they still cost money and all companies will seek to maximise their profits.

If they removed all need for bots I would defently resub.

Imagine a world in which when you logged in you had every purple buff on you at all times. Where the support classes focused on there main line such as smite clerics, cave shammy etc.....Would still get resist via the classes that give them now. Just get the diffrent tear ressist baised on buffers level not spec.

So you would have spec af, haste, con, dex, str, str/con, d/q, brain. If you die they reaply from str/con to d/q to spec af on and on in best to lowest importance baised on class ever 10 seconds. Ml 10 cloaks would still be important because the system would only rebuff when your either rezed / relased or out of combat for 20 seconds.

Kill the bots kills some of the lagg issues. Get more people playing. Yeah at first loose subs because of bot revinue, but come on 1 person 1 account the guy who thought up the idea of runing 2 accounts on 1 system clearly was a gready mother F'er...

Bingo. Unfortunately, mythic chase the quick buck and alienated thousands who didn't feel like paying for 2-4 accounts. It reflects a basic lack of ethics by mythic.

Late into the night I'm seeing 1200-1400 off of herald. That's lower than Merlin during 2002, which would frequently go above 2500. Servers max and were designed for 3000 or so.

In the evening I see high 500s per realm and I suppose if it were a hopping weekend night or something it might go higher, which drops down to the 300's once 11:00 rolls around.

The population is not all that great right now.

Wasn't the DAOC sub fee lowered to 9.99 at one point? I think 15 is too high for this game.

10$ a month wouldn't bring anyone back. 5$ a month might since someone could run the 2-3 accounts that are needed to do daoc right but they can't afford that for sure.

some kind of morphing into a f2p game with item shop type stuff is the only alternative viable model and who really believes daoc could be retrofitted to it.

I can agree with this. I play a few free to pay games and enjoy them. Some of the people at my office play DDO Online and pay money for items and don't mind. Not to mention, I play Battelfield Heroes and have dropped some money into that F2P game. I think this would be a good idea think about it. Say paying $10 a month or some set period for purple or red buffs. Maybe even buying bots for a set period of time for healing. It could fit so many ways. I've never had a bot and never will get one. The whole concept to me was always stupid. As a IT person, I can't tell you how many IT friends and coworkers who love MMO's that tried this game, enjoyed it, but ultimately canceled because they refused to pay double. APB Reloaded will be back on the market as a F2P game. I'm in the beta and I can't wait. I think changing this game to that would be a big help.

But I bet they would be more content with closing the game before doing that.

How about cosmetic items only or gear? Unique looks and colors. Nothing that you could buy and get an edge.
