realized I was in Warhammer2 and quit to re-subscribe to daoc. Just lost house and had to get it all back and set up again but meh. Think alot that tried it will be coming back soon. Still don't see why new MMOs do not copy DAOCs PVP set up of 3 realms and all the other stuff. PVP in RIFT as it was in War is just boring and lame.

Nobody copies DAoC PvP because DAoC wasn't that successful. Most MMO players want PvE over PvP.

I wouldn't say it wasn't successful, but it pales in comparison to WoW. You are correct though. PvP and RvR are niche markets. PvE is where the money is at, and games are just trying to come out with the next PvE idea WoW hasn't thought of yet. Or the next big type of game-play, which WoW also hasn't done yet. Either way, PvP and RvR will continue to be a side bonus in games and not get much support.

It wasn't a failure, it was solid. But in it's peak it paled in comparison to EQ.

hope you sent in a bug report for being allowed to go into warfronts at level 7, considering you have to be level 10 to get in them...

I didn't like WoW at all and didn't play Warhammer past the free month because I had better things to do irl. I'm really enjoying Rift, even though it is a theme park and everything is essentially decided for me.

I'm mainly playing because my guild from Darkfall is here in force. Not sure how long we'll be here, though, because we've got 12 people at level 50 already and activity's been down quite a bit since at level 50 the warfront queues take 30 minutes and the only world pvp is to interrupt the opposing faction while they do raid rifts in the high level zones. We've done that once, winning a nice 20v30 fight and keeping the rift on lockdown until it expired. The guild didn't come back, though, they just went to farm their shinies in an instanced zone instead.

All this said, Rift isn't really a clone of WoW, Warhammer, or any of those games. It has a lot of elements from just about every single MMO to date. It's just very polished in all regards, except PVP. It has no real diminishing return mechanic on crowd control effects, and just about every class has multiple versions of AOE CC. Most fights at level 50 leave my cleric chain stunned/silenced/squirreled until dead. I've got a purge-ish effect on a five minute cooldown, but with so much CC, every time I use it to break a stun for instance, I'm stunned two seconds later anyway.

Good point. Most RvR and PvP games haven't come close to sniffing the number of subscribers PvE games get.

WAR almost had a million initial box sells, Daoc had 250k subs at its height until ToA killed it. I say history has shown that there is a very large MMO segment that wants a RVR centric MMO. The problem has been that only Daoc pre-ToA delivered a quality game that fills that need.

Frankly the only three sided rvr game that I know of coming up and some of its rvr details are a bit sketchy is Secret World, the Funcom MMO in development.

and WAR is more PvP heavy the daoc.. why didnt those 1 million initial players stay? ...

BECAUSE THERE WAS NO PVE... PvP cannot sustain a game.. and all heavy PvP games have failed.

Completely incorrect. The pvp didn't kill WAR, Mythic's ineptness killed it. Bugs that are still in the game, completely unbalanced classes, completely unbalanced populations and then the Mythic snafu with billing killed WAR. WAR's pve wasn't great but it wasn't that bad.

wait... WAR had pve???... i didnt see any... other then the level grind to level cap.. there was no PVE ..... and even then you leveled faster in PvP in war then in PvE

thats what killed WAR... the complete lack of anything other then PVP to do in it...

thats why i stopped playing it after level 30.

All of the above (unbalanced populations you can make an argument for but theres only one server left) is true of WAR and DAoC.
