There has to be a way to flag an account as realm specific. Avoiding the lockout timer is beyond easy and has never even been remotely addressed.
Agree, & doing it with incentives/scaling system would be a good starting point.
So the best plan would be to have dynamic incentives for population?
Highest population logged in none/ 2nd highest 5% rp/bp / lowest 10% rp/bp
Mythic already seems to do this with the hookpoint purchases and the "discounts" for underpopulation. I'v had days where in a given session you get and then dont get the discounts.
For those people who want to play one realm you would randomly get bonuses or not and since you are content to play one realm you should get a bonus sometimes and you should have fewer people hopping onto and out of playing your realm. Thereby eliminating some of the larger population swings.
For people who relic hop there would be less incentive to follow the relics which make you more powerful at the cost of earning less rp's. Thereby eliminating more of the larger population swings.
It's not a perfect solution but it should, in theory, make the population swing curve flatter.
I don't mind the idea of realm timers at all. I have toons in all three realms and could manage to abide by them.
I often wonder if you like the game enough to play after nearly 10 years, would you really quit if they said 24 hrs between realms? ( and of course could make it work and not ignore the kill process thing ) For all the talk on VN about bad relic hoppers are you would think this is a non issue?
