Isnt pre auth usually 1$? Thats all I have ever had deducted anyway.
it depends on the system, some people only do 1$, some do full purcahse price, in some cases were the actual purchase isnt known at the time of pre-auth they'll do an amount to cover any possible charges, like gas pumps, can do upwards of 100$ for pre-auth... and resteraunts often do 20% over bill price, incase you write in a tip ammount on the reciept...

Unfortunately I think Angryranger is right. This isn't the first person I heard say they got charged the full game price instead of the $5 price. Doesn't sound like it's just a pre-authorization check.
So I can see that as a problem when you are pre-ordering 3 copies of the Deluxe edition. Think I'll just pick up my copy at Best Buy, if I get it (still undecided).
pre-auth charges can take upwards of 48hrs to fall off bank accounts.... in that time, overdrafts and declines happen because the available balance is reduced, even though the charge hasnt actualy posted to the account, and will be cleared...
but people see the pre-auth, then freak out... even though it will go away on its own...
but if there isnt money in the account to cover it... well people get hosed... but its an error on the consumer end, not EA's or any other company, because pre-auths are a pretty standard thing, so people using there bank account for it with limited funds are only asking for trouble.
now, alot of people out there are ignorant to these things so they will rant, rave, and carry on that they were charged, then it was just the pre-auth reducing the available balance, not an actual charge posting to the account.

I use a debit card. But I have that account set up with anywhere from 20 to 200 dollars in it. It is only for online transactions. I usually keep it just around 50 bucks, and deposit extra funds when I intend to purchase something online. It is a checking account.
No, there is not a minimum balance fee.
Yes there is overdraft protection.
But recently, I was sent out a document to sign that would allow online transactions to dip into my overdraft. Without that signature, my bank will refuse to allow any online transaction to dip into my overdraft. So, I'm protected there. This was due to recently passed legislation. Can't recall if it was State of Fed, but most likely fed. My state is a common wealth and couldn't give two craps less for commoners like myself.
Either way I'm protected.
And you should be too.
Check your bank.

LOL, another dumb product that the banks use to make you feel all warm any fuzzy inside. Overdraft PROTECTION! Protection from who? Yourself? The only thing that they are protecting, is money that they make by consumers laziness to monitor their accounts. That's a WIN for the banks, EPIC fail for consumers. Waaaaaaay back, I use to work for Citibank, and I worked for Credit Protector Retention unit, (you know, the guys you would call to cancel a product, and we would talk you into keeping it?) Yeah, well, I would get people that paid into that type of "Protection" for about 1-2 YEARS, and then finally would look up their bill and see the charge and call in to cancel it, why? Very simple, they don't monitor their accounts. They have this automatic payment, which is fine, as long as you make sure all the charges are legit. What ever happened to sitting down at a table and paying the bills YOURSELF, instead of having a computer automatically do it for you?
Don't have the time? Oh well excuse me Mr. "Super Busy Celebrity that has no time in the day because they are dodging the Paparazzi", if you don't have the time, hire an accountant since your SOOOO busy that you don't even have the time to pay your bills. WHATS NEXT!??!!? WHATS NEXT ?!??!?! WHATS NEXT!?!?!?!?!? (LOL Drinking with Bob)

It's interesting how customer service is a "very trivial thing". Maybe to you but not to some of us. I suspect the lack of customer service has significantly contributed to the fact that DAoC these days is a bottom feeder in the MMO space.
It's also funny how Angry is able to get such a reaction these days. It's like the fans are physically addicted to the product such that any perceived attack is akin to physically removing access to the game causing the addict to go into withdrawal.

Your comment lacks perspective and context. People aren't so addicted to the product in question that they overreact to criticism; its that bitter-ranger is constantly seeking to put mythic and/or daoc in the worst possible light at every opportunity - he is malicious in his comments toward the game 100% of the time, which ignores the games many positive and entertaining aspects.
So naturally people see him as the malcontent he is. Don't always see people's comments as a defense of the product, but just as much a repudiation of bitter-ranger's completely myopic and antagonistic perspective.
