To preface, let me say that I played this game EXTREMELY hardcore from release through about '04. I had a 50 Scout (RR6), 50 Minstrel (RR7), 50 Eldritch (RR7), and 50 Infil & Reaver that rarely RVRd. Needless to say, I played a LOT.

After about 7 years of telling people in WOW and Rift that DAOC has the best PVP of any MMO I've ever played, I finally decided to actually pick it up again. I don't have any of my old accounts, so I began anew as a free trial. Since then, I've been quite shocked to see how the community has degenerated from what I remember.

I get from 1 to 40 in a day via BG quests, and all is good. Then, the issues start. I ask for a guild about once per hour, so as not to spam; no replies whatsoever. I try to find a DTF group (after being explained what DTF is, and Googling the rest), but I don't have Soj ML10 so I'm worthless as a minstrel. I try to tag along with RVR groups to get BP to buy ML credit but I'm too low. See the Catch-22 here? So in the meantime, I'm soloing TDs which, as a minstrel with a max charm of yellow in a TD, is not very quick.

In general, noone is willing to help or even advise a new player who may actually have just picked up this game for the first time. Believe it or not, 10 years later people are still picking up DAoC. In my case, I've forgotten most of what I knew, but I've talked to several new players who are canceling their subscriptions before the first month due to this general lack of help. One of them described it to me very aptly; the only people left here are veterans who no longer need anything, and elitists who are too good to waste their time on you.

I loved DAoC, and I still love DAoC. But as a 10-year old game, I feel we need to help new players as much as possible. I'm more than willing to do so myself, but don't have many resources yet as I've been back only 4 days. When brand new players pick up this game and drop their subscription immediately, the game is going to die.

For what it's worth, I'm currently a 44 Minstrel, and I'm more than happy to help you or your alts with anything I am capable of.

pm me your toons name and a time/place where you'll be... i sorta came back to the game after selling my accounts... but in true donnyboy fashion i'm fairly wealthy after about a month of playing..
i can if you need it help out with your mls 1-10... as far as a guild go's normally theres 2-4 guilds spamming for more all day long..

The laby is a great place to xp but there are a few pitfalls so watch out.

First start with the mobs at the entrance. The top level by each entrance has several halls with mobs that appear blue - oj con. They have low HP and pittiful dmg. You could easily solo them even if they con red to you.

You will come to a spiral staircase. These leads to the hub aka Nurizane's Crossroads. This is the major cevter for pvp. to get to higher con mobs you will need to go through the hub.

The hub is a circular room with 3 levels, 5 obies and 8 exits. Each realm represents one of the 4 top level exits. The 4th leads to an interection that takes you either into the clockwork levels or the flooded levels. This is where you'll find most of the pve you need to get 47-50. This hallway is referred to as the PvE hallway.

There are 4 exits at the bottom level of the hub aswell. Each has a small hall with mostly oj-red mobs, one or two named mobs and an obie.

Obies are transport devices. There are about 60 of them throughout the laby. There is also one at each entrance and 4 in the hub. You will automatically have port to the hub or nurizane's crossroads. You will have to activate the rest. This will require you to click on the obies one by one. Once you click on an obie you can then port to and from it. All obies port to the hub, but you have to port to the hub before porting to another obie. The entrance can port both to the hub or any of the other obies aswell. When you port you will have 15 secs of immunity before a player can attack you. Becareful because it does bug and give you no immunity on your first port after each time you zone into the laby.

Some ports are active with pvp. Tegashirg, Discovery's crossing, nethuni south, are a few. Once you get these ports and get ports past them I would not port back to them until after your templated and ready for PvP. Also be ready to die alot trying to get the first few ports. Find a slow day with little action or a time when alb controls the hub to get the first few ports. Once you have them you can go into areas where very few people go to xp. Its very fast xp and you can do 45-50 in a short period.

On a side not, there is a section of mobs in the lower levels that drop dragon scales. Find Thanatoy and you'll know your in the right area. But these mobs are red and purple to a 50
