First thing I think that needs to be fixed is the attitude of said community towards new or returning players.
For example, I just re-subbed after not playing for probably about 4+ years, no one that I knew or anyone that knows me plays anymore so when I want to RvR I spend my time spamming the LFG and Region channels never getting invites so I resort to messing around in Thid. This is where normally a guild comes into play, but again, no groups = no meeting any people. It's a vicious cycle.
Now I don't have any ideas on how to make it any better but I see this as a huge problem, especially if it's someone new and they are solo, if they even make it to being a templated level 50 who are they supposed to play with?
Just my 2 copper.
You identified a valid problem with the game but your paradigm may be a bit off. You can’t change human nature. You can acknowledge human nature and design community rules to inhibit the negative nature and design other rules to bring out those traits that you want to see more of, but you can’t change human nature (isolated exceptions do not change the general rule).
Just look at places in the world where graft, greed, corruption, etc. . . are allowed to flourish mostly unchecked. Those are horrible places to live (mostly horrible). Look at other societies where there are strict and enforced rules against graft, corruption, etc. . . (along with checks and balances to help eliminate graft, corruptions etc. . .) and even though the negative aspects are not completely gone, those societies are much nicer places to live.
Human nature is human nature. It is unfortunate but true.
The only people that can change the general direction of the game community are those at Mythic, through game code/rule changes. If Mythic codes to bring out the negative (players dark side) then the game becomes what it is today. If Mythic coded more to eliminate negative behavior and coded to give benefits for positive behavior, then we would see more positive behavior toward noobs.
As others have mentioned, yelling and screaming at Mythic should continue but it is unfortunate that yelling and screaming is our only option (other than canceling). Those at Mythic are the only ones that code the game and those at Mythic are the only ones that can change the direction of the game or (via code changes) change the attitude of the game community.
