I had some lvl 1 ranger message me the other day from the doors of DL (NF Side) asking me where he should level

He was totally new to the game and had no idea what he was doing or where to go.

Turns out that the first person to have give him advice decided to bring him to NF and said, hit purple mobs down there to level up.

After numerous times of getting 1 shot I got a tell asking what he's doing wrong...

From the douchebaggery displayed on this occasion it's no suprise we don't have more new players. The game's not exactly the easiest to jump into just following the tutorial.

The trash talk and WTB spamming on the /advice channel certainly doesn't help. I wish Mythic would commit to creating a better new user experience by policing the outrageous chat behavior.

Or, heaven forbid, create a class of volunteer sub-CSRs that have the power to temporarily silence people. (And before everybody piles on, yes I know plenty of people go batshit crazy when you give them a little power - just look at the VN Mods, for instance.)

Be friendly with new players, have your friends play Camelot and get people to stick together and have an enjoyable gaming experience.

Agree with this 100%

The tutorial is fairly shit, a new player has no chance really, not to mention the UI is screwed up. The last thing they need is players giving them crap. Fact is there is a lot of choice out there for games. It's very easy to just ignore daoc and pick up one of them if you can't get into it properly. Plus, daoc has always been one of those games that seems fairly dull until you really progress your char.

Your asking us to build a house with our bare hands.

We need tools to build anything.

Ywains house is built,it is what it is.

Now give us new property and tools and we can build a new house.

New server, pre toa, with forced realm pride and I'm willing to help anybody again...

Char copys to mordred wouldn't hurt either,it would only add fun!!

It's a complicated situation, the players feel cheated (and quite possibly with reason) this makes them feel that Mythic owe them something, any change or announcement is jumped on by everyone who wants an opinion, "Free Mordred", "DAoC 2" or whatever the silly people spam at the moment. Having such a hostile environment does make communication with the fan-base quite difficult. I see a much better situation in Ultima Online and Warhammer Online. So I think part of the problem is the attitude and actions that the players have and people posting on this forum. If the atmosphere was less hostile, we may have seen more communication from the dev team (as small as it might be), or at least some representative from the studio. We know small development teams can create positive developments and changes, especially from my DOL history. We have seen unique and interesting features developed on some DOL shards, we have seen some fantastic UI's developed from the DAoC community.

Mythic does have to make an effort to engage with the remaining community or risk losing them, sadly it seems this concept left with Sanya. People can accept slow patch times, people can accept bugs. If they know their concerns are being acknowledged, if some feedback is given in reply, "Unfortunately the studio doesn't have the resources to address this issue at this time, however what we could do is...." or "This is what we are working on at the moment, and this is when we are planning it to happen, are there any suggestions you guys may have in regards to this?" are much better responses than silence.

Also, something I briefly touched on a post I made on the DAoC wiki is the options that Mythic have if they don't have the resources to work on some things, your community are fans of the game, and they are talented, the modding community for many games have been actively engaged and are in my opinion an un-tapped resource. It wouldn't be unreasonable for some work to be shared with the community, whether it be web based, quest script fixes, item fixes and they can be submitted. For the most part only the basic structure needs to be revealed, a scripting language for quests with an API, a database structure for items, and then the work that has to be done is lessened by moving to a review and implementation process.

These are just my thoughts on the matter.

Exercise: List legitimate help requests you most frequently see in chat.

Where is the Mid Vault Keeper?
How do I start Champ Lvls?
Where is the King?
Where the hell is low level named newbie mob?
What's the RR cap here?
Does my Champ Weap fully unlock even if I'm CL1 or do I have to kill the Circle of Five in alphabetical order?
Where's the Necro/Heretic trainer?
