Used to play Hib-Nimue as well. I would visit the log in Ardee for storytime about half the time. Was a lot of fun (depending, of course, on the quality of the night's stories (and the kibitizing, of course))....

I remember the RP tale nights at the RD log. I even told a couple of tales there.

Percival will always be my first DAOC love, with Mid Gareth a strong second.

I just can't bring myself to play Ywain and the mass merged servers, especially with so many TOA artifact lacking toons.

Ahh well, there's always DDO, and I'm keeping my eye on Sanya's new home Prime as well.

I recall a controversy when some players (I thinks Albs) took RP to the level where they would actively discourage realm mates from buying from the merchants in DF, saying that it was evil and an offense to the Realm. IIRC the merchants at that time could be attacked even if they sold in your realm's hone area of DF. Some thought the players were just looking to grief other players, but hey had imo a valid RP position.

I started on Midgard Nimue, and then later played Hib on Gareth.

That was a guild named DarkWolves griefing their own realm mates on Mid/Merlin, which wasn't a role playing server.

The hilarious thing is that many players were verbally abusing the DarkWolves members in /say and /broad, which resulted in them being suspended from the game for harassing the DarkWolves members. The CSRs decided that the imp merchants were valid mobs to kill under the current ruleset and suspended the accounts of people who used profanity in public channels and harassed the DarkWolves members The next DAoC patch made the imp merchants unattackable on your home realm's side of DF.

This was griefing instead of actual role play because giving a DW member gold to craft you an armour or weapon = you being scammed hardcore The original thread to the story is http://vnboards.ign.com/daoc_merlin/b20666/43977649/p1/ but the story page and screenshots they made are no longer on the internet.

Fond memories of this game and thinking I might come back and see how things are. I played shortly after release until 6-7 months or so after TOA.


Played MMOs before and after this and compare everyone to the fun I had in Dark Age. No MMO since has kept me for more than 9 months.
