Remember when there used to be RP servers? |
when i first started playing daoc, i initiate conversations with "hail" because in UO, no one would reply to you if you didnt say hail.
and i would always get told to go back to RP servers 
this was on galahad or MLF i forget!

I remember ya Kelryck and certainly remember Smilla and VoV. I mostly played an SM named Sneev back when no one played an SM, and a kobold warrior named Skraeling (yeah I could pick em). I was in Teeth of Garm, Seventh Legion, and Rage of Fenris. Do you remember any of these names: Brago, Deerdre, Aldis, Graax - those were the folks I ran with mostly...

The other common misconception was that if you were a roleplayer you couldn't possibly be good at RvR/PvP. This in spite of the fact that some of the best overall players of this game came from servers like Percival and Guinevere 
Everybody knows Lancelot was the only TRUE server! :-)

I used to go on the RP servers for the same reason I go to the annual renaissance faire, to point and laugh.

Why? I never once felt compelled to go to the regular servers and /yell "Look at all the ****ing ***holes" or anything like that. Yet non RP players did that regularly. If people wanted to play the game their way I was fine with it, why did you feel you had to come to the RP servers and be rude? I used to appeal folks like that on a daily basis. Its only unfortunate that they didn't get perma-banned on repeat offenses.
You probably like to walk into a synagogue and yell "Alles Juden Raus!" too don't ya?

i started on hib nimue back in 2004 or 2005, right after the release of toa. i remember there was a guy who would have storytime at the log in ardee. first time i saw it i couldnt figure out why all these people were hangin out in ardee of all places. was a good community, good people. first guild i was in was silverfist brigade, later moved to duillag bane. i was the last duillag bane player active when ywain came.

Hib/Perc I stayed there until clustering, then I began bouncing around. In hindsight, that's when the game lost it's charm, and yet...
I leave. I return. It's a vicious cycle. I preferred the RP servers. Simply, the people were family. We helped each other. We had weddings and some intricate ceremonies. Through the way a person role played, we learned much of what they were like in the real world. Since we couldn't realm hop, a call to arms was answered with gusto. Back then, Mids outnumbered Hib and Alb, plus they came on at odd hours, so we would fight for hours claiming the frontiers, (and dying alot),go to bed, and wake up to a Mid controlled frontier. Wash, rinse, repeat, but what fun. Haven't had fun like that in a long time. Among the things I've heard that "ruined the game", I consider the clustering of RP servers to non RP servers to be a major cause of loss of realm pride.
