Mass Radar Bans changed the game and caused a downward spiral that DAOC obviously was never able to recover from. Prior to that ban, servers were expanding, not merging. That had to be the worst financial decision Mythic(or whoever at the time) ever made. "Our noobie developers can't figure out how to block third party programs from running in our game, so lets cancel a few thousand accounts at $30 bucks each (everybody had 2 accounts back then)". Absolutely brilliant business decision. Even banned a few peops I know for using a mouse macro to craft....really?....
Mythic ruined the frontier by making it extremely way too big, radar made it where you could roam and actually find a fight that wasn't on a bridge or in a keep. Solution, ban radar and extend clip range. Problem, ban radar costs $$$$$$$$$$ in accounts, extending clip range made back ...ummm...not so much.
Now, before you get all excited and full of realm pride, yes I was banned for radar (best year or 2 of rvr, hands down, what was the name of the radar program? I think Mythic was jealous they couldn't develop it) along with many other in game friends, we all re rolled, leveled, geared up, and still rolled over groups just like we did before the ban. But! the damage was done. The community was broken up (and it was an incredible community back then), rvr became a bridge or keep camping game (booooring)because you couldn't find anybody in open rvr, literally, because the frontier was too big, and along came WoW, Conan, etc. etc. (competition). Great timing to slash the budget ?!?! This gave some of us time to kick the internet crack addiction and others time to move on to new games with new communities.
So in remembrance of the community (not radar users, well, most weren't, I think :}) - TyTyTy, Kallis, Fannie, Vyxar, Xeno, Masterpayne, Gooby, Dragox, Lylii, Dynasty, and all the other guilds and people I spent entirely too much time with.........
I vote YES !!! UN BAN THE LAWDAWG !!!!
Heck, I might even spend 15 bucks just to see the toon. 'Course that'll happen the same week they induct Pete Rose in the hall...
Now, back to my wonderful reality
